The Ailey Studios Reviews
I just saw their tremendous performance at the Mesa Arts Center. This was the amazing most night. The music was eclectic and compelling, ranging from incredible modern rhythms, through the sounds of atonal post-modern classical, and into impeccable choral renditions of old African-American spirituals. The choreography was stunning and unexpected at times but always evocative. The dancers obviously loved performing these pieces and did a spectacular job of conveying the angst and joy inherent in the songs. Such artistry and altheticism is unparalleled. Bravo! Just wow.
Apr 20, 2025 · Dennis HubertCesar Valentino is a voguing Icon and pioneer of the art form. Voguing since 1983. He created an environment of empowerment and inclusion for everyone that took his Vogue classes at Alvin Ailey. Not sure why he no longer teaches there after teaching there for 10 straight years. If I recall, his groundbreaking class was the first ever and only official weekly Vogue class at Ailey. Bravo to the ICON for the setting the precedent and paving the way for others to be able to teach Vogue and Ailey! Bravissimo!
Jun 17, 2025 · Mildred TineoThe 2025 version of the Alvin Ailey presentation was disappointing. The show started late (3/1/25) at the Academy of Music.I thought the show was low budget with no scenery or backdrops. The story was confusing, the dancers were not in sync and it was overall very sloppy. I have seen them perform before and they were spectacular!!I guess time and changes have changed the choreography. Perhaps they should do Revelations first to give you something to look forward to. I left early due to intense boredom and requested a cancelation/refund for 2 tickets to the Sunday (3/2) show.Hopefully, they will increase their budget for more props and scenery.
Mar 05, 2025 · Vivian MeekinsThe dancers were boring. The presentation was sloppy. The clothing looked like it was thrown together. It was a tragedy. I have seen them perform so much better. People were leaving early. It was not worth the money. A white man sat in front of me and stated, " I don't like black ballet. " I was embarrassed.
Feb 13, 2025 · Angela ButlerThe company I’m part of rented the space, and it was quite nice. The theatre was spacious and the wings were not bad. Nicely sized house. Though the dressing rooms are next to a tap room, they are great for privacy. Only thing is that it is a tad bit confusing getting around, but overall it is quite nice.
