Extra Pirouette Reviews
I started ballet classes with Anastasia about 6 month ago and regret and not joining earlier. I had prior classical dance amateur experience and when I moved to NYC, I kept looking for a ballet studio for a couple of years before I came across Extra Pirouette and finally found something that was up to my standards. I was looking for a place that has a dedicated and attentive teacher, and Anastasia is exactly that person. Whether you had prior dance or ballet experience or not, she will help you get on track and start improving from the very first class. The progress that I have made in those 6 month doesn’t compare to any other classes I have been previously taking. Not only has Anastasia been able to help me fix my long-term mistakes, but also help me understand where they might be coming from and help me understand it is not a talent issue. Some of my previous teachers used to say that my body is not made for dancing or ballet and Anastasia proves otherwise! If you have a desire to get better in dancing and an instructor like Anastasia, who is willing to guide you the way to becoming a better dancer, then you will get to your desired result eventually! I would definitely recommend taking classes at this studio if you always wanted start or get back to ballet classes. Not only will you improve your technique, but will also have some fun and have a chance to join the recitals that allow adults perform as well! After a long break, I’m looking to my first recital this December✨
Nov 22, 2024 · Mariia EzhkovaI started ballet lessons last fall as a complete beginner with no prior dance experience, and it’s been such a rewarding journey! I always attend the basic technique classes on Thursdays, which are perfect for building a strong foundation. The instructor takes the time to explain every detail, especially how to work with your feet, which has really helped me understand the mechanics of each movement. The smaller class size is also a huge plus—it feels more personal, and there's a better chance to get individual corrections compared to the larger group lessons with 20+ people. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to start ballet from scratch!
Nov 23, 2024 · Zoe GaoI have been studying with Anastasia since 2019, and I cannot recommend her classes enough, but I will try anyway:I took up ballet when I was 25 as an absolute beginner, but due to a back injury I had to take a sabbatical and then life got in the way. I missed it so much that ten years later I decided to try again, but it is not easy to find a class that will take on an adult beginner ballerina with no prior classical training--all I could find were barre method and similar fitness-oriented classes that were focused more on working out than on classical technique. I was ready to give up and shelve my dreams of ballet until I found the ExtraPirouette website and sent an inquiry.Anastasia's response was prompt and friendly; she answered all my (many) questions and assured me that her classes were entirely focused on technique and that I was welcome regardless of my skill level. I gave myself a trial class as a present to myself for my 36th birthday. I am shy, so I was nervous and did not know what to expect, but I could not have been happier with what I found. There were dancers of all body types and all skill levels there, the entire lesson focused on technique, and everyone was friendly and willing to help each other with steps or combinations.Anastasia is an incredibly patient teacher and is as generous with her praise as she is attentive with her corrections, and it is clear her years of training and performing have given her the knowledge to assess exactly what each dancer needs to focus on to improve; she treats every dancer as an individual. She never ignores a student, gives everyone personal attention, and never turns anyone away, no matter what their age, skill level or body type may be--the classes are so inclusive, and everyone is so supportive of each other that it truly feels like being part of a team and a family.I spent my childhood watching my friends learn ballet, going to their recitals, seeing them go up en pointe, wishing I could do it too. I could not be prouder to say that last year, at 40 years old, having started as an absolute beginner 5 years earlier and admiring my adult classmates that first day in 2019, I danced in pointe shoes of my own for the first time. At 41, it's an honor and privilege for me to dance alongside many of those same classmates and continue to grow with them. All of this is because Anastasia is such a dedicated, patient, precise, and encouraging teacher. Her confidence in my ability to improve gives me the confidence to work hard, and because she believed a 36 year old absolute beginner could someday get en pointe, I believed it too, and now it is reality. I am grateful every day, because I would not be dancing the way I always wished I could without Anastasia's knowledge and support, and it's my little dream that came true.
Nov 22, 2024 · Natalia Alianova JayeI have been studying with Anastasia since 2016 and can't feel more blessed that I have her as my teacher since she first returned to New York to teach after her impressive experiences performing and teaching globally. One doesn't come across a teacher who teaches more passionately and impeccably than Anastasia, not in New York, and not even worldwide! She meticulously breaks down all the technical intricacies and help us overcome challenges as adults and pre-professionals.There are hardly any perfect ballet bodies in the world: she diagnoses what our bodies need to progress in our ballet journey and prescribes exercises and designs barre and center combinations that help strengthen the muscles we need. She handpicks variations that are beneficial to our technical and artistic growth, so we get to apply what we learn through dancing this art form we are so passionate about.Anastasia is that phenomenal and motivating a teaching artist whom one would still go to her class during snowstorms and gets up at 5am to take her classes online while living in a different time zone. I am so thrilled for her now she has this beautiful, clean and well-maintained studio she deserves. The art scene in NYC is extremely competitive, and Extra Pirouette has come so far, which says something. We can't be more proud of Anastasia and her studio and are grateful for life for the immense effort and love she put into teaching and the art form.
Feb 25, 2024 · Melody ChanAnastasia is a great teacher as well as an artist. One of the best in New York City! Anastasia is very precise and always emphasizes on the use of right muscles and provides all the necessary corrections. Classes are very helpful and challenging in a way that it helps you to progress faster. Anastasia's classes are great as for very beginner as well as for advanced dancers as she pays attention to little details and provides a constant feedback on how to do movement better as well as more artistic.
