My daughter is taking classes at the Washington Ballet. In my experience, some of the teachers working with children are not sufficiently trained to communicate with them or to create a supportive environment. While they may be well-prepared in terms of dance technique, some come across as cold and detached. They seem to expect children to behave like robots, which can be discouraging. I believe teachers should receive proper training in how to work with kids, so they don’t risk extinguishing the passion for dance at such a young and formative age - Ta’

It provides opportunities for "seasoned dancers, an absolute beginner, or somewhere in between" to pursue their love for dance, emphasizing an "inclusive environment that encourages everyone." The "monthly fundamentals" classes are particularly beneficial for refining technique.
  • Performance Opportunities, notably The Nutcracker: A major draw for young dancers is the chance to audition and participate in The Washington Ballet's professional company production of The Nutcracker, providing invaluable stage experience. Students also have opportunities in student performances.
  • Deep Community Engagement: Beyond its school and company, TWB actively engages with the community through programs like Dance DC and Dance for All, reaching thousands of children and adults, and promoting accessibility to dance education throughout all wards of D.C.
  • Prime Location and Accessibility: With multiple studios across D.C., including the convenient Wisconsin Ave location accessible by Metro and bus, TWB ensures its programs are within reach for a wide range of residents.
  • Structured Learning and Progression: The school year programs are carefully graded, with clear progression paths (Creative Dance to Pre-Ballet to Lower/Upper Divisions), ensuring students receive developmentally appropriate and challenging instruction.
