- Owner's Son, Michael: Michael is mentioned positively by one reviewer for being "nice" and understanding regarding parent requests, particularly concerning photo permissions.
However, it is crucial to also acknowledge areas where improvement has been sought by some patrons, particularly concerning administrative and operational aspects:
- Communication Challenges: Concerns have been raised about "chaotic communication," including delayed responses, incorrect information, and unanswered emails/phone calls.
- Safety and Privacy Concerns: A significant highlight of concern is a reported incident regarding the publication of a password to access children's photos on social media, despite explicit opt-outs for photo usage, raising serious privacy and safety questions.
- Customer Service Issues: Experiences with certain staff members (e.g., Laurie) regarding perceived snotty responses and an unwillingness to address concerns have been noted.
- Lack of Responsiveness from Management: Persistent attempts to contact the owner, Nancy, for serious issues reportedly went unanswered, indicating a potential lack of accountability or follow-up on critical matters.
- Exclusionary Policy for Male Parents/Children: A concerning policy was reported where male parents and male children were asked to leave the building during specific events (picture day, rehearsal), raising questions about inclusivity and safety oversight for children left unattended.

It is recommended to clarify all questions regarding class schedules, safety protocols, communication practices, and any specific policies regarding parental presence or photo usage. Given the mixed feedback from public reviews, direct communication and thorough vetting of administrative practices are advised to ensure alignment with your family’s expectations and priorities.
For New Jersey locals, The King Centre for the Performing Arts in Mahwah presents a mixed profile that requires careful consideration. On one hand, the feedback from parents indicates that the actual dance teachers are often "nice" and capable of engaging young children, fostering an enjoyable in-class experience. Some families have also found that the studio helps instill valuable qualities like independence, strength, and a strong work ethic in their children, contributing positively to their personal development. If the primary focus is solely on the child's interaction with the dance instruction itself, some may find the teaching quality satisfactory.
However, it is crucial for local families to be aware of significant concerns raised by other patrons, particularly regarding organizational issues, communication breakdowns, and serious safety and privacy lapses related to children's images online. The reported unresponsiveness from management on critical issues and the alleged exclusionary policies for male parents and children are also points of concern that would warrant thorough investigation and discussion directly with the center's administration prior to enrollment. Ultimately, while the dance instruction itself may have merits, New Jersey families prioritizing clear communication, robust child safety protocols, and inclusive practices may need to exercise caution and conduct extensive due diligence before committing to The King Centre for the Performing Arts.

The King Centre for the Performing Arts Reviews
If your child's safety is of any concern, do not bring your child here. They are also extremely unorganized and will consistently give you incorrect information. The only positive was the dance teachers were nice as well as Michael the son of the owner.Dance teachers: nice and my 4 year old enjoyed her time here with the dance teacher though there were times it seemed like they didnt want to be there - my 4 year old still enjoyed it.Chaotic Communication: the communication re: dance classes, rescheduling or even information pertaining to recitals were delayed and parents were also given wrong information many times. It seems to be a telephone game when requesting information and a blame game at other times. Most questions are answered by "let me ask the powers that be and get back to you" then having to repeatedly follow up. Emails and phone calls go unanswered. You typically have to wait until you get there to speak to someone in person and hope its not a teacher as they are as confused as you are.SAFETY: When signing your kid up here you fill out paperwork of course that include permission to use your kids photos at their free will. I, like many informed parents, chose to opt out of this and was assured by Michael this was absolutely understandable. To be extra sure I wrote on my sign up paperwork, that I signed, they do NOT in fact have permission to use my minor child's pictures in any public form without my express written consent.Picture day comes, my daughter gets her pictures taken that I pay for. I confirm with Michael these pictures will not be used in any public capacity as stated on my sign up forms. I am assured of the safety and privacy of her images. Parents receive an email with instructions of obtaining pictures and a password to access them. The next day their social media team PUBLISHES THE PASSWORD on their social media. Insane. I could not get in contact with anyone. The risks for sharing childrens information online is immeasurable. Besides the risks of identity theft, the risk of predatory access are even greater. Protecting my child is number one to me.Since no one responded to me, my only option was to speak to someone at the recital which ended up being Laurie. I told Laurie what had happened and said on top of this general safety issue, I specifically outlined that my child pictures are not to be used in any public capacity. And she snottily responded: Well you signed that away when you signed her up on the paperwork. NOPE! Check again! Long story short after lots of back and forth and attitude, they deleted the post but not before Laurie called the photographer and asked for him to delete all her my child's pictures so they would be inaccessible to even myself and thus we could not get our own personal pictures that we paid for from the photographer. The photographer was very very understanding and seemed equally confused as to why they ever would do this as well as feeling terribly that I could no longer access my child's pictures as Laurie had them deleted. After all this, my husband and I wanted to speak to the owner - Nancy - as this is such a major safety violation for not just my child but everyone, let alone our experience with Laurie. We have called more times than I can count and were always promised a call back, that never happened. Do better Nancy. Take children's online safety seriously. Respect their parents and your community. My little one is obviously dancing elsewhere.*Another note, as if this isn't long enough, if you are a single dad, or are a male parent, or have male children, they will not let them/you in the building. Both male parents and children were asked to leave on picture day and rehearsal. So if you were a female parent with male kids you had to leave your dancing kid there and offload your male kids, or if you were a male parent you were just asked to leave and I guess trust adults working for them you've potentially never met (who were of both genders mind you). Make it make sense.
Feb 19, 2025 · Aly AmbroThe king centre is awesome, they taught my kids to be independent, strong, and to work hard. They love dancing here and enjoy the great teachers. My daughter tells me if it wasn t for dance she would not be as strong as she is when it come to auditioning for parts, and excepting what she gets in her dances and shows they perform.
May 22, 2018 · Maryann LindstromThe best dance school ever. Over the years, I've watched my nieces, nephew and my daughter perform and for the past 9 years, my granddaughter. Not only do they learn dancing, singing, tricks and even acting but they also teach the children to be caring, supportive, respectful in all they do. It's one big happy family.
