Tango Del Barrio Inc offers a comprehensive range of services and activities designed to immerse participants in the world of Argentine Tango, catering to various skill levels and interests. Their offerings are structured to provide both foundational learning and ongoing opportunities for growth and social engagement:
- Introduction to Tango Classes: Specifically designed for new students, these classes focus on getting participants on the dance floor quickly. They cover basic tango technique, fundamental steps (like parallel-system walking, simple turns, rock steps, ochos, and the cross), and how to lead and follow effectively with a partner. These classes typically run in structured sessions (e.g., 7-week courses).
- Tango Continuation/Enhancement Classes: For students who have completed introductory levels, these classes expand upon and refine basic skills for social dancing. They focus on improving walking, turns, and sequential improvisation, adding new options to known figures and enhancing basic technique.
- Intermediate/Advanced Tango Classes: These sessions delve into more complex aspects of Argentine Tango, exploring what it takes for the dance to happen organically and comfortably for both partners. They often require some previous tango experience.
- Weekly Practicas: Held regularly (e.g., every Wednesday evening), practicas are informal practice sessions open to all levels. They offer a relaxed environment for dancers to socialize, work on their technique, problem-solve, and practice floor etiquette. Instructors are often available during practicas to answer questions. First-time visitors are often welcomed with free entry to these sessions.
- Milongas (Social Dances): More formal than practicas, milongas are social dance events where participants can enjoy dancing to tango music in a traditional setting. These events are crucial for experiencing the social aspect of tango and applying learned skills. Tango Del Barrio hosts various milongas throughout the year, sometimes featuring guest DJs.
- Guest Instructor Workshops: The organization frequently sponsors and underwrites guest instructors, including renowned figures in the tango world (e.g., Marcela Duran, Oscar Casas). These workshops bring technical excellence and fresh perspectives to the regional tango community, offering advanced learning opportunities.
- Community Building: As a non-profit, Tango Del Barrio is committed to building interest and skills in a growing and vibrant Cincinnati tango community, fostering a welcoming environment for all. They also have a diverse Board of Directors supporting their activities.
- Student Discounts: Full-time university students are often offered classes at half price, making tango more accessible to a younger demographic.
- Resources and Policies: The organization provides clear codes of conduct for practicas and milongas, as well as general studio policies, ensuring a respectful and safe environment for all dancers.
Tango Del Barrio Inc distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights that contribute to its standing as a cherished institution for Argentine Tango in Ohio:

The organization also brings in high-caliber guest instructors, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing technical and instructional growth.
- Structured Learning Progression: The availability of "Intro to Tango," "Enhance Your Dance," and more advanced classes ensures a clear learning pathway for students of all levels, allowing for continuous skill development.

- Opportunity for Connection: The community aspect is a major draw, with participants finding "a great way to keep active" and make new friends, as highlighted by a student who enjoyed "getting out of the house!"
One reviewer did mention an experience at a performance by dancers from this group where costumes were perceived as "too revealing" and "not family friendly or appropriate for my kids." While this specific instance referred to a performance, which can differ in style and presentation from instructional classes or social dances (milongas/practicas), it's important for prospective attendees, particularly those with children, to consider the context of different events offered by a dance organization. For social dancing and classes, the environment is typically focused on learning and community, as noted by the overwhelming positive feedback regarding the welcoming and inclusive nature of the studio itself.

Tango Del Barrio Inc Reviews
Recently saw an incredible performance by dancers from this group. It was amazing, but the women's costumes were so revealing that they might as well have been dancing in a thong. Def not family friendly or appropriate for my kids. We were all uncomfortable.
Apr 21, 2025 · Kelly WatsonEnrolled in a beginner's class. The classes have a really nice pacing and the staff has really done an excellent job of having enough leads in the group, so you have a dance partner that has some experience throughout class time. It is a great experience and I'm really enjoying getting out of the house! The facility has a good location with great parking and the interior has a nice bright friendly atmosphere. Again just really having a great time.
