Beginner Salsa Lessons: Perfect for newcomers with no prior dance experience. These classes focus on foundational steps, basic turns, timing, and lead-and-follow techniques. Ricardo and his instructors are praised for making these classes enjoyable and effective.
Intermediate/Advanced Salsa Lessons: For dancers looking to build upon their fundamentals, these classes introduce more intricate footwork, complex turn patterns, styling, and musicality, helping students refine their skills and expand their repertoire.
Private Dance Lessons: For those seeking highly personalized instruction or faster progress, private lessons with Ricardo or his team are highly recommended. As one reviewer noted, Ricardo "has the skill set to properly teach the techniques needed both for the lead as well as the follower" in a one-on-one setting, making the lessons "quite enjoyable, regardless of the students' skill levels."
Focus on Lead and Follow Techniques: A significant emphasis is placed on developing strong lead and follow skills, which are crucial for social dancing. Students are encouraged to change partners frequently in group classes to improve their adaptability and connection.
Salsa On1 and potentially On5 Style: Ricardo Tellez is noted for having pioneered the "On5" style of salsa dancing. Salsa Fridays at Space 550: RicaSalsa is also involved in social dance events, such as "Salsa Fridays at Space 550," providing opportunities for students to practice their moves in a social setting outside of formal classes. This helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world social dancing.
Performance Opportunities (RicaSalsa Dance Company): Beyond individual instruction, Ricardo also directs the RicaSalsa Dance Company, which is an arts organization that has influenced hundreds of dancers and performers. Apr 29, 2024 · Diana EspinozaRicardo is such a great teacher! He’s encouraging, breaks down the hard steps in easy ways to understand, and keeps the classes light and fun! He also teaches the history and music theory, so you get a rich understanding of Salsa. I’ve improved so much from his teachings and have gained such a great community with my classmates! Highly recommend his classes!
Mar 21, 2024 · Camila HurtadoGreat salsa classes for beginners and more advanced dancers! Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I especially like how Ricardo teaches foundations+variations that you can combine in many ways instead of static patterns. I have a better feel and intuition for salsa from going to the class!
Apr 18, 2024 · Leo PekelisI met Ricardo at 550 few years ago. I knew very little about salsa, turns, musicality, types of turns, and so on. I didn't even want to let guys guide me. It seemed weird at first, but I got the hang of it.Ricardo was hosting a workshop, and he distributed some information after the class at 550. I got the card and chatted to him briefly about it.He is pleasant and knowledgeable about salsa lessons. Aside from the fact that I learned plenty, his classes are really entertaining.Carolina.
