Pre-Ballet Programs: Designed for the youngest dancers (typically ages 3+), these classes introduce fundamental movements, musicality, and basic ballet vocabulary in a fun and engaging way, fostering a love for dance from an early age.
Graded Ballet Levels (Level 1 through Advanced): The core of OBA's curriculum involves a progressive system of graded ballet classes. Students advance through levels, focusing on developing strong classical technique, body placement, coordination, musicality, and artistry. As students progress, class duration and frequency increase, and more complex elements like pirouettes and allegro are introduced.
Pointe Work: For students who demonstrate the necessary strength, physical development, and technical proficiency, pointe work is introduced at appropriate levels (e.g., Level 3 onwards), with increasing complexity as they advance.
Performance Opportunities: OBA provides extensive performance opportunities for its students. This includes participation in major annual productions like their highly acclaimed renditions of classical ballets such as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Snow White. Students of all levels are given chances to be part of these professional-quality shows, ensuring "each child is given a chance to shine."
Choreography and Theatrics: Under the guidance of skilled directors like John Grensback, performances integrate creative choreography, theatrics, and fun elements, making the productions engaging for both performers and audiences.
Professional-Caliber Productions: OBA's productions are noted for their high quality, featuring "professional" costumes and sets, "exquisite" choreography, and "perfectly matched" music, providing students with invaluable experience in a realistic performance setting.

May 26, 2025 · Amy KunihiroOregon Ballet Academy has been a positive addition to my children’s lives for over 10 years now! 6 of my children have enjoyed classes with OBA and we are continuing to send kids there! John is a genius at choreographing his own renditions of performances like Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Snow White…. And adds theatrics and fun elements into his classes! He was trained at the Joffrey ballet and the Houston Ballet, two very prestigious schools and companies… and also taught at Houston Ballet! He is a gem in the Eugene area! We highly recommend this Ballet school, which is located off of West 11th!
Dec 08, 2023 · Katie TorkornooI was disappointed with how OBA handled challenges associated with my 7 year old's developmental disability. My kiddo ended up being expelled for briefly running in the studio with another student. Admittedly this wasn't the first time they had expressed frustration about behaviors related to her condition, but (in my opinion) it felt like a really arbitrary thing to dismiss us over after our daughter had spent months showing meaningful progress.
Feb 03, 2023 · Logan THave had two daughters at OBA over the last 6 years for ballet, and more recently jazz as well. Best experience ever, professional staff and teachers, the performances are always amazing. Would recommend everyone to consider OBA as the place to go. And, not only are boys free for a lot of the training, I am pretty sure they have the largest number of boys attending and would love to have more.
Apr 26, 2013 · David HatcherI absolutely love OBA. Having no experience with ballet myself, I initially worried that the "ballet crowd" would be intimidating or that I'd have to deal with a bunch of dance moms and drama. My experience with OBA over the last 4 years has been the polar opposite of my fears. The studio is professional but so kind and caring with my children. They know our whole family and truly care about not only the production they put out - which is always beautiful and professional - but also the souls they teach and the community we live in. I don't have sons, but I love that they offer free tuition to boys 10 and older, to encourage boys to stay in dance.OBA has the expertise and experience to give their students a fantastic dance education, and conducts their studio with the respect and class to eliminate the drama you see at other studios. I would recommend their programs to anyone.
