The Global Education Center is far more than just a venue; it's a beacon of multicultural understanding and a dynamic force for community engagement in Nashville. Founded in 1996 and registered as a nonprofit in 1997 by Ellen Gilbert, an anti-bias and multicultural education specialist, the center is built on the profound Lakota words, "Mitakuye Oyasin," meaning "We are all related." This philosophy underpins its core mission: "To use the arts of diverse cultures, to highlight the commonalities of all people, to promote global awareness and concern, to develop empathy, understanding and respect for the individual and for all of humanity." Through its diverse programming, the Global Education Center actively works to dispel myths, dismantle stereotypes, unlearn biases, and alleviate fears, fostering a safe haven for cultural exploration. As one enthusiastic visitor shared, "I love the Global Education Center so much! There’s always something educational and fun to do there. I love the classes, concerts and events and always leave feeling connected to community and as if I have been on a trip to another country or culture." This glowing review perfectly encapsulates the transformative power of the center, making global journeys accessible from the heart of Tennessee.

Jun 10, 2024 · Tirra OmiladeGlobal Education Center offers a lot of great programming and is deeply rooted in kindness, respect, and integrity.
Dec 13, 2024 · Brandon SommersThis place should be branded by the UN as a cultural heritage site! It's a melting pot of different cultures, and mainly, a school to learn them. I train in capoeira here with Professor Michael, and the studio is just perfect to do so. There is a park nearby where we train when it's warm outside, and the rest of the time it's in the studio. There are wooden floors, good lights, and many mirrors to practice and train. There are many events that happen here regularly, and Headquarters, the coffeeshop across the street is a perfect spot to hang out afterwards.
