We moved to Hayward this year, and were completely welcomed to a family-friendly community with the addition of Ballet Petit! My daughter, who is 3 years old, started her first set of classes and could not wait to go back every week. Recently, she participated in her first studio production of Sleeping Beauty, performed at Chabot College, and the pre- to post- production was the best experience my family could be involved in. The director, Peggy, is committed to flourishing the studio, and always has resources available in the studio for clothing and intense workshops. We can’t wait for the many years of engagement with Ballet Petit! 👑 - Elidia Contreras

Ballet Petit offers a diverse and comprehensive curriculum designed to cater to dancers across a wide spectrum of ages and skill levels. Their programs are meticulously structured to provide both foundational technical training and engaging opportunities for artistic expression.

  • Classical Ballet Training: This is the core offering, providing rigorous instruction in classical ballet technique. Classes range from "Claras" (3-4 years, customized curriculum through story ballets) and "Odettes" (4-5 years, progression from Claras with classic children's literature) to Beginner levels (ages 4-14), Transition/Intermediate levels, and Advanced levels. The curriculum focuses on proper technique, strength, grace, and artistry.
  • Pointe and Pre-Pointe Classes: For more advanced ballet students, specialized classes are offered to develop the strength and technique required for pointe work, ensuring dancers are safely prepared for this demanding aspect of ballet.
  • Lyrical Dance: These classes blend ballet and jazz movements, focusing on expressive and flowing choreography to interpret the lyrics and emotion of music.
  • Jazz Dance: High-energy classes that teach the vibrant and dynamic movements characteristic of jazz dance.
  • Tap Dance: Students learn rhythmic precision and percussive footwork in engaging tap classes.
  • Hip Hop Dance: For those interested in contemporary styles, the studio offers energetic Hip Hop classes, teaching popular urban dance moves.
  • Contemporary Dance: This style explores unique movement qualities, often blending elements of ballet, modern, and sometimes acrobatics.
  • Acrobatics: Classes that teach strength, flexibility, and control for acrobatic movements, integrated with dance connector steps.
  • Musical Theatre: Programs that combine dance with acting and singing, perfect for aspiring triple threats.
  • Adult Division Classes: Ballet Petit encourages dance for all ages, offering adult classes (e.g., multi-level Ballet/Lyrical Stretch) that provide a flexible and welcoming environment for adults to enjoy dance, stay fit, and de-stress.
  • Summer Dance Academy: Intensive summer programs, often in partnership with esteemed organizations like the Oakland Ballet Company, providing concentrated exposure to ballet technique, pointe, repertoire, and choreography, culminating in "Informances."
  • Major Productions: Students have incredible opportunities to participate in full-scale productions, most notably the longest-running "Nutcracker" in the East Bay, and other classical ballets like "Sleeping Beauty," performed at professional venues like Chabot College.
