Wehner's School of the Arts Reviews
I have been at WSOTA for almost 7 years now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have learned so much through my teachers who constantly support me and my team. Being able to dance with my best friends and make so many memories on and off the stage is something I will always cherish. I think a big part of this studio, especially being on competition team, is the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. We are constantly celebrating and uplifting all the girls around us. I love this studio and I am forever grateful for all I have gained through it!
Jul 01, 2024 · Molly DeGennaroOur daughter attended dance classes at Wehner's for several years and was active in the company and competition teams. My wife's and daughter's experience with the staff as a whole was mostly positive and the studio was open to working with you to make classes fit your schedule. Over the time she attended the studio did expand in size and has seen an almost complete change in the primary dance teachers. The change in teachers has led to a less conservative style of dance and costuming than when we first started. The increase in size also came with an increase in class size which leads to feeling more like a number than a person and making it difficult to see everyone on stage perform. With this increase in size the studio has also seen an increase in the number of dancers looking to join the competition team which has led to the large number of solos and lengthier recitals as noted in other reviews. Also with this growth we have personally felt like focus on the company teams has shifted much more heavily to the competition groups making it less appealing to join company with the extra requirements and get less dances than you used to. Lastly and my primary reason for giving only 3 stars is our experience with competition here. A lot of the feedback given to my daughter for both her solo and group dances revolved around more ballet and to focus on technique. Whenever my wife or daughter asked about what to do to improve they were told "it was fine" and not to worry about it. Don't get me wrong we are not looking to make a professional dancer by any means but you pay to learn and then are told not to worry about feedback being given just doesn't sit right.
Jun 26, 2024 · Phil WhitneyOur daughter has taken dance classes with Wehners for 9 years. Overall, our daughter has had a good experience here. There is a positive atmosphere and front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. The owners are friendly and open to working with you when issues arise. It appears that they really love what they do. Dance companies offer an opportunity to perform 1 dance at the Orange Park Fall Festival, Wehners Christmas Spectacular, and Disney Springs. I will say that we have seen a high turnover of dance teachers in the last 2-3 years and the older classes’ dances are not as conservative as they used to be. (More skin and sexy style dances.) The studio is big and therefore has 2 recitals. The older kids’ recital can feel a bit long with many solos mixed in, as each competition student often has a solo.
Jun 25, 2024 · Amanda ColonMy daughter began dancing at WSOTA in the summer of 2020 when her previous dance studio closed and recommended WSOTA. To be honest, I wasn't excited to move to a new studio because it was further away from our house and the dress code (leotards, tights and buns 😉) was a bit strict in comparison to where we had been. Luckily my friend, another dance mom, convinced me to give them a try and I am so happy that we did. My daughter has grown as a dancer in ways that I can't even describe. She started out as a 10 year old recreational dancer taking 2 classes a week and has become an almost 15 year old highly competitive dancer taking 12+ hours a week. The growth I have seen since she started at WSOTA is phenomenal. She loves the studio, the teachers and the dancers and has truly made several lifelong friends. We were so upset when her previous studio closed but it ended up being a blessing in disguise. WSOTA's environment is so welcoming and encouraging, I can't imagine my daughter being anywhere else.
Jun 27, 2024 · Courtney DonahueOur daughter Gracyn has been dancing here for 3 years and about to start her 4th season. We also have our son Ethan taking Piano lessons with Edwin and they are both excelling in their craft through the skilled instructors, both in dance and music at this studio. We are beyond thankful for the many opportunities WSOTA has provided to our daughter for Dance. They offer so many varieties of dance and music lessons as well as master classes and Company and Competition teams. The instructors are very skilled and caring and truly knowledgeable in their craft. They go out of their way to make sure your child gets the most out of each class. You really do become like a family in the studio the longer you spend here. The older girls are so sweet and helpful to the younger girls and are positive role models to our younger dancers. Kyle and Holly are the most wonderful people to get to know and truly care about all of their dancers, musicians staff and parents. They are very present at their studio and take the time out to try get to know not just the students but the parents. We definitely made a great choice in moving our daughter to this studio and we are so proud and thankful to be a part of the WSOTA family!
