My daughters adore their elementary level ballet teachers and fun in some classes (involving choreography for upcoming performances) and are challenged in their technique focused classes. The elementary level teachers seem quite lovely and know how to challenge the students while making ballet enjoyable. My daughters have been taking lessons here for many years. I have two minor complaints. There is no administrative staff on site helpful administrator is available by email though. Also, the small lobby gets very crowded with parents, students and bags so that there is little room for the children to sit down and put on their shoes before and after some of the lower level ballet classes. So, parents need to find some other place to wait, such as the nearby Starbucks in the afternoons or in their cars in the evenings since Starbucks closes before the ballet school closes. - Marian So

For families across the Golden State, particularly those in the vibrant Bay Area, Rachel's Ballet stands as a beacon of excellence in classical dance education. This is not merely a place where students learn dance steps; it's a dedicated institution committed to providing the best possible classical ballet training while fostering a deep appreciation for the art form. At Rachel's Ballet, the commitment to dance extends far beyond the studio. The teachers, described as "lovely," "warm, gentle, and incredibly skilled," excel at making ballet enjoyable while pushing students to reach their full potential. The school's commitment to high-quality training culminates in impressive annual productions, such as their renowned "Nutcracker production," which has astounded audiences with its professionalism and scale, rivaling performances seen in major San Francisco theaters. Rachel's Ballet invests time and energy not only into teaching dance but also into instilling invaluable life skills, encouraging students to strive for their best, express themselves, and be prepared, respectful, and consistent in their efforts. It's a place where children thrive in a creative space, transforming lives through the beauty and discipline of ballet.

  • Classical Ballet Training: The core of the curriculum focuses on classical ballet, offering developmentally-based classes from ages 3 and up. These classes build on progression, providing sound fundamentals and a holistic approach to proper and well-rounded dance training, including Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus classes and exams for all ages and abilities.
  • Children's Classes (Ages 3-6): Designed for young girls and boys, these classes focus on improving motor development, physical fitness, musicality, and self-expression through movement, fostering self-esteem and creativity. Levels are based on maturity and ability to focus (e.g., DTL1/DTL2).
  • Ballet Grades (Ages 7-10+): Students progress into a more formalized study of classical ballet, working at the barre, strengthening stance, age-appropriate turnout, port de bras, and classical line. Grades 1 and 2 typically require two days per week, while Grades 3, 4, and 5 require three days per week, including stretch/strength sessions.
  • Vocational Levels (Pre-Professional): For serious dancers, vocational tracks are offered (Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, Advanced 2, Solo Seal), requiring multiple technique classes per week, including pointe work for female students. This includes recreational Discovering Repertoire Syllabus and a dedicated Vocational Track.
  • Auxiliary Classes: In addition to classical ballet, Rachel's Ballet offers classes in Contemporary dance, Lyrical/Jazz, and Acro, broadening students' range of vocabulary and style.
  • Stretch & Conditioning: Supplemental training for dancers in Grade 1 through Vocational levels, focusing on stamina, flexibility, core strength, and pre-pointe conditioning, incorporating techniques from Yoga, Pilates, Calisthenics, and Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT).
  • Annual Performances: The school stages two main performances each year, including the highly anticipated "Nutcracker production," offering students invaluable stage experience in complete, professional-level productions.
  • Summer Dance Camps: Various camps are offered in Fremont, such as Nutcracker Camp (G4 to Vocational), Performance Summer Camp (ages 7-10), and "Around the World of Dance" (ages 5-7), providing intensive training and creative exploration during breaks.
  • Private/Semi-Private Lessons: Available by invitation or arrangement for students who require personalized attention or wish to accelerate their training.
  • Make-Up Class Policy: Students can make up missed classes within the same school term, either before or after an absence, at the same grade level or below, with prior email notification.

  • Highly Professional Productions: The school is renowned for its "extremely impressive" annual productions, particularly "The Nutcracker," which are described as being "on par or even better than shows seen at major theaters in San Francisco," attracting full capacity audiences and earning standing ovations. This offers students invaluable real-world performance experience.
  • Exceptional Teachers and Instruction: Teachers, while challenging students in technique, are praised for being "lovely," "warm, gentle, and incredibly skilled," ensuring ballet is enjoyable while promoting significant growth. They are "highly qualified and caring," taking a personal interest in every child.

  • Emphasis on Holistic Development: Beyond dance technique, the school instills crucial life skills such as leadership, patience, resilience, discipline, and a "never give up attitude." It also teaches students to be supportive, prepared, positive, respectful, and consistent.
  • Strong Student Progress and Confidence Building: Parents consistently report that their children "adore" their teachers, have "fun in some classes," are "challenged in their technique focused classes," and "thrive in this nurturing, creative space," gaining immense confidence.
  • Small Class Sizes (Implied): While not explicitly stated for all classes, the comment about "maximum 12 students per class" for some specific creative movement and primary classes indicates an effort to provide more individualized attention.
  • Dedicated Administrative Support (Email-Based): While there is no on-site administrative staff, a "helpful administrator is available by email," managing inquiries, registration, and tuition, ensuring that parental concerns are addressed efficiently.
  • Commitment to Safety and Prompt Pick-up: The school emphasizes child safety, requesting prompt pick-ups to ensure children are not left unattended and belongings are taken into the studio, reflecting a responsible approach to student welfare.
