Pontecorvo Ballet Studios offers a meticulously structured and comprehensive dance program, primarily focused on classical ballet, but extending to other crucial disciplines. Their services cater to a wide range of ages and goals, from recreational enjoyment to serious pre-professional training.
- Children's Program (Beginning Ballet Levels):
- Focus on developmentally appropriate instruction that teaches real technique in a methodical curriculum.
- Emphasis on building a strong foundation in classical ballet from a young age.
- Programs designed to allow dancers to visibly progress over the years.
- Youth & Teen Progressive Curriculum:
- Rigorous training in classical ballet technique, including barre work, center exercises, and intricate combinations.
- Classes structured to enhance agility, control, speed, lightness, and grace.
- Pointe Preparation and Pointe Classes: Specific training for female dancers to develop the necessary strength and technique for pointe work, introduced only when dancers have sufficient strength.
- Dedicated Boys' Program:
- A unique and highly praised feature of PBS, offering a supportive environment for male dancers.
- Boys are integrated into regular technique classes, working side-by-side with girls.
- Specialized boys' classes focus on specific male technique, partnering, and building strength, often with male mentors from higher levels. This ensures boys are "not 'put on display'" as in some other studios.
- Adult Ballet Program:
- Caters to all levels, from absolute beginners to ex-professionals.
- Offers a flexible structure allowing adults to participate "off and on as life has permitted."
- Provides opportunities for performance for adult students who wish to participate.
- Serious adult students can take regular classes at appropriate student levels and perform in school productions.
- Modern and Jazz Classes:
- Complement the classical ballet training to create a well-educated and versatile dancer.
- These classes continue to form a well-rounded artistic education.
- Performance Opportunities (Optional Participation):
- Annual Full-Length Ballets: PBS produces at least two full-length ballets each year, which typically include the entire school (depending on the specific ballet, younger levels may have a separate, age-appropriate ballet). This is a significant highlight, offering a comprehensive performance experience rather than just individual recital dances.
- Annual Production of "The Nutcracker": A beloved tradition, providing extensive performance experience for students.
- Performance participation does not incur extra costs for costumes, as the studio maintains its own costume shop.
- Rehearsals for performances are held separately from regular technique classes, ensuring that class time remains dedicated to technical training.
- Costume Shop: The studio maintains its own costume shop, which means performance costumes are included in the tuition (or participation fees) and are not an extra cost to parents.
- No Audition Required: Unlike some pre-professional studios, PBS is open to anyone; "There is no audition needed to attend Pontecorvo Ballet Studios." Students can join at any time during the year.

This provides students with comprehensive stage experience in a professional context, distinct from studios that only offer individual recital pieces.

Pontecorvo Ballet Studios Reviews
This place has been a real blessing. My daughter recently switched to this studio after studying for 8 years at another. After 2 months, she has already improved tremendously, both mentally and physically.
Mar 08, 2024 · Trent MayPontecorvo Ballet Studio has a wonderful program no matter your ballet goals.I have danced in their adult program for years (off and on as life has permitted). It is great for all levels from the beginner to the ex-professional. There are even performances opportunities if you like.My son started in the children’s program in beginning ballet this year. The program is developmentally appropriate and teaches real technique in a methodical curriculum. It is wonderful to watch the dancers progress over the years. A dancer can leave the program very ready to enter the professional world of dance if they so choose. Even with no precessional aspirations they gain the work ethic and athleticism dance provides while having belonged to a wonderfully supportive dance family. They have a very nice program for boys with boys at every level providing mentors for the little ones to look up to. Boys are not “put on display” as I have seen at other studios. They work side by side with the girls, but have a special boys’ class where all the boys and men of the studio work on specific male technique. The classes are reserved for technique. There is no recital rehearsal during class. Performance is optional and has separate rehearsal times. Participation in performance does not cost extra (not even the costumes since the studio maintains a costume shop). The tickets are pricey, but parents can always volunteer for a free ticket. The performances are not 3 hours of individual dances. They put on at least two full length ballets each year which include the whole school. (Depending on the ballet for the spring, sometimes the younger levels have a separate ballet geared for a younger dancer.). We travel from the northern side of Dayton to for Pontecorvo, and it is worth every mile.

May 04, 2019 · Eliza GraceBarbara truly does care about her dancers, and that makes a difference. So glad our girls dance at this studio.
Feb 10, 2024 · MichaelFor older, pre-professionals dancers, Ms. Pontecorvo has had a very high placement rate in New York, Boston, Chicago, and Houston summer intensive programs.
