Our mission is to promote the unique movement vocabulary and choreographic style inspired by the Southern African heritage, creating learning spaces that honor Black artistic excellence. Founded by native South African Lesole Z. Maine in 2003, LDP creates and performs works that highlight the unique qualities of contemporary modern and Afro-Fusion dance, while also offering educational residency programs on the movement and history of popular Traditional South African dances such as Gumboots, Indlamu, and Pantsula.

As enthusiastic customers have attested, you'll experience "Authentic South African dance classes taught by a South African!" and enjoy a "teaching style" that leads to a "really good workout." Lesole Maine, fluent in more than three languages, uses his rich heritage to enhance performances and teaching. His extensive background includes studying with the Johannesburg-based Moving Into Dance Company, where he mastered contemporary, jazz, Afro-fusion, modern, ballet, jive, hip hop, traditional, and modern South African dance. This deep well of knowledge ensures that students receive truly authentic and high-quality instruction. The studio also offers drumming classes, adding another layer to the cultural immersion. We take pride in cultivating a curriculum that is both challenging and profoundly enriching, making every class a rewarding and inspiring experience.
