Areas of Concern (as highlighted by one long-term customer):
- Severe Climate Control Issues: A significant and consistent complaint revolves around the gym's heating and cooling system. It is described as "80 degrees and humid with zero air circulation" in warm weather, and "freezing" with "ice-cold" dumbbells in winter, requiring "outdoor gloves" to lift weights. This suggests a major discomfort issue for members for much of the year.
- Persistent Equipment Breakdowns: "Broken equipment sits untouched for months," with specific examples of "Two machines down for three months now with no sign of repair," indicating neglect in maintenance.
- Poor Parking Lot Maintenance: The parking lot is described as a "pothole-riddled mess" with "cheap patchwork that crumbles within weeks," and a "dangerously uneven" handicap section posing a fall risk.

For residents of Olathe and surrounding areas in Kansas, Genesis Health Clubs - Olathe Ridgeview presents itself as a local fitness option with both notable strengths and significant challenges. Its suitability for locals largely depends on individual priorities regarding gym experience and what aspects of a fitness center they value most.
On the positive side, this gym clearly fosters an "Excellent Community Gym" atmosphere, with members feeling "valued." The "huge draw" of its amenities, including a pool, basketball courts, and racquetball, provides a wide range of fitness activities beyond basic weightlifting. The "lots of class variety" and "amazing" group exercise instructors are strong highlights, making fitness engaging and fun for many, with "lots of fun always happening." For those who prioritize diverse class offerings and a social, community-driven workout environment, particularly enjoying dance classes, this location could be a good fit.
However, it is crucial for prospective local members to be aware of the consistent and significant concerns raised by a long-term member. The severe and unaddressed issues with climate control (extreme heat and cold), persistent broken equipment, and a poorly maintained parking lot are substantial drawbacks. These reported conditions directly impact comfort, safety, and the overall functionality of the gym for a considerable portion of the year. The perception of corporate prioritizing "cosmetic upgrades" over fundamental repairs like a new AC system suggests a potential disconnect in member comfort being a top priority.
In conclusion, if you are a local Kansan whose primary motivators are a wide array of group exercise classes, a strong community feel, and diverse amenities like a pool or courts, and you are willing to potentially overlook significant comfort issues related to climate control and equipment maintenance, then Genesis Health Clubs - Olathe Ridgeview might still offer value. However, if consistent climate control, fully functional equipment, and well-maintained facilities are high on your priority list for a comfortable and effective workout environment, then based on the critical feedback, it would be prudent to thoroughly inspect the facility and perhaps consider other options in the Olathe area before committing to a membership. A personal visit during different times of the day would be highly recommended to assess the current conditions for yourself.

Genesis Health Clubs - Olathe Ridgeview Reviews
**Disappointing Decline: My Gym’s 15-Year Journey to Neglect**I've been a loyal member of this gym for 15 years, through ownership changes and supposed "improvements." When the new owners took over, they spent money on cosmetic upgrades—paint and superficial fixes—giving the illusion of repairs, but nothing truly changed. For five years, I’ve waited for a new AC and heating system, hoping that the comfort level would finally match the price of membership. Instead, the gym remains unbearable for most of the year. At 6 a.m., when it’s only 70 degrees outside, the gym is already **80 degrees and humid with zero air circulation**. Their version of "air conditioning"? A few fans that barely move the thick, sticky air. Walking in, you immediately feel the suffocating heat, and even the staff seem drained and miserable. Corporate recently visited, heard the complaints, and **shot down the possibility of a new AC**—which means August will be even worse. And if you think summer is bad, **winter is just as miserable—only the opposite problem**. The gym’s airflow is so poor that the inside becomes **freezing**, to the point where dumbbells are painfully cold to the touch. You literally have to wear **outdoor gloves** just to lift weights because the metal is so ice-cold it hurts your skin. It’s not just the climate control that's failing—**broken equipment sits untouched for months**, ignored by management. Two machines have been down for three months now with no sign of repair. The parking lot is a **pothole-riddled mess**, and every attempt at fixing it involves cheap patchwork that crumbles within weeks. Even the **handicap section is dangerously uneven**, posing a serious fall risk.Today, I’m finally cancelling my membership. It’s clear that corporate sees this "diamond" club as nothing more than a cash grab, refusing to bring it up to even a **basic** standard. It’s heartbreaking, especially since I love the dance classes here—but there's absolutely no way to enjoy them in a **80-degree, airless room**.If you value a functional gym with proper maintenance and climate control, look elsewhere. The ownership has made it clear that member comfort is the least of their priorities.
Jun 13, 2025 · Bri PartridgeExcellent Community Gym. The amenities are a huge draw. Lots of class variety. Group Exercise instructors are amazing. Lots of fun always happening. If you want to feel valued, as a customer, this is your place.
Apr 02, 2025 · vetI give it three stars as it has potential. The deferred maintenance is unreal. Specifically due to the fact they made a solid investment several years ago but clearly much still to do. AC hasn’t worked since last year, men’s sauna hasn’t been reliable since before the pandemic. Recently “fixed” yet still does not work properly. Half of the weight equipment is out of date and barely functional. And yes, the parking lot is like driving through a war zone. We don’t know anything as members either about when all this stuff will be fixed. I wonder what they tell new members?I love the location, trainers, instructors, classes etc, just can’t fathom that this “premiere” club is being ignored.
Jun 15, 2025 · Matt McLaughlinThis club is absolutely trash. Please walk and see for yourself. The first thing that you will notice is grave size holes in the parking lot, which they appear to be getting fixed by some local friends that have no business working with asphalt. Next walk inside you’ll find definitely discovered ceiling tiles stained from roof issues but more importantly what will hit you right off the bat is the lack of AC or humidity removal. Every day I go in there it is 80+ degrees because they refuse to spend money on the AC. They also refuse to spend money on having any 45lb plates. Equipment is always broken. Any given day an incline bench will be missing a cushion or the back will slide out from underneath, pins missing from machines, bolts laying around that have fallen off of machines, padding cracked and missing leading to having to put a towel over it, this is if you CAN EVEN GET A TOWEL! Meanwhile the owner is trying to not pay taxes, where is our annual fee going? I think we all know.
Jun 07, 2025 · DustinEnding our membership after over 2 years for a failure of corporate leadership not fixing the HVAC system. From negative temperatures and seeing our breath in the winter, to 82 degrees in the facility this summer when it’s 65 degrees outside, unable to complete my workout. Fitness is important, but safety is more important. Genesis prides themself in being a “members first experience,” but at this DIAMOND club, I find that to be very far from the truth. This is a huge disrespect and HAZARD to your employees, your members, and especially the high risk populations (Silver Sneakers, those who work with developmental disorders, other health conditions). Heat exhaustion and dehydration are huge risks in Midwest summers and we haven’t even hit the worst of it. Rodney and his corporate team failed this location. Equipment needs replaced, parking lot is a disgrace, and the many issues cause gym community morale to be lowered. I’ve reached out via email, phone calls, and there’s been no response. We will take our business to a true luxury gym— Lifetime Fitness and gladly will pay more.
