Akhmedova Ballet Academy Reviews
The Akhmedova Ballet Academy provides an incredible education that goes above and beyond what normal schools provide for its students. Besides the exceptional ballet training the artistic director and the teachers mentor and coach the students in all aspects of their training. I brought my daughter to ABA years ago and we are beyond delighted with the instruction, training and the structure of the program. 10/10 recommend!
Apr 06, 2025 · Elaine NovakovichMost of the five-star reviews you see here were written by parents who were told to do so by the school’s owner—while their children were still enrolled. One of the reviews was even written by one of the teachers.⭐ 1 StarAfter reading ABA’s polished promotions and glowing promises, I enrolled my 10-year-old daughter—starting with their 2024 summer intensive and continuing into the school year. Unfortunately, we left by March 31, 2025, due to a series of deeply disappointing experiences.2. Targeted Exclusion & Emotional HarmWhen I made a personal decision for my daughter that a teacher disagreed with, she was not spoken to directly—instead, my 10-year-old child was punished. She was ignored in class, skipped for corrections, and had a dance role taken away and reassigned in front of her. In one performance, she was cast as “grass,” kneeling the entire time without dancing. It was humiliating for a young child who loves ballet.3. Pay-to-Play CultureWe were told she was “ready” for a solo, then later told she wasn’t—because we hadn’t paid for enough private lessons. Ability seemed less important than how much extra you were willing to spend.4. Parents Used, Then IgnoredParents are expected to distribute flyers and purchase 10 tickets per show. If your child joins a competition, you are required to cover the teacher’s travel and lodging. There is little to no parent communication—when I asked for post-class feedback once, I was told teachers were “too busy.” All communication is done through the child, even when they’re only 10 years old.5. Extreme Control & No TransparencyNo outside training is allowed. Negative reviews or even constructive feedback may result in dismissal. Summer intensives are mandatory. Students perform in ticketed shows but receive no compensation—yet parents cover all costs. If this is a business, why no W-9?Final ThoughtsFor a school with fewer than 15 students, ABA enforces rules harsher than many professional companies, with far less compassion or flexibility. What should have been a joyful journey in ballet became an expensive and emotionally damaging lesson. Children deserve better. Please read the contract carefully, ask detailed questions, and think twice before enrolling your child at ABA..
Apr 11, 2025 · Lisa LinThe Akhmedova Ballet Academy provides the finest quality ballet training. It provides dancers with a well-rounded dance education emphasizing technique and artistry, and world-class choreography. My daughter has been trained at Akhmedova Ballet Academy for the past 6 years. Mme Akhmedova is the most dedicated and passionate ballet teacher and mentor that I have ever seen. She helps my daughter to achieve an incredibly strong core which has given her more confidence with everything that she does. This is going to be an incredible journey!
Nov 23, 2023 · xiufen suiABA provides intensive training for future ballerinas and dancers. The school also presents many opportunities to participate in national/international competitions. Teachers are extremely dedicated to students' wholesome growth. In addition, the school nurtures a wonderful community of collaborating (not competing!) parents who support and care for one another.
Nov 28, 2023 · Suntae KimAfter searching for a ballet studio for my daughter, we enrolled her at ABA. She has only been there a short time but is already growing as a dancer. Akhmedova's ballet training is superlative, with a rigorous schedule, small class sizes for individualized attention, and a live pianist to accompany. Everything done by the book, Vaganova style, with top-notch teaching faculty for the serious ballet student, and it is balanced out with contemporary and character classes for a rounded dance education. Highly recommended for someone looking for pre-professional training.
