Calendar shows Feb 9: 7pm West Coast w’Maria B. Not there. Also shows 8pm “2 parties under 1 roof” After waiting in empty room Adrian told us the dance starts at 9pm and we were very welcome to stay. We chose not to sit and wait for 2 hours. Please update calendar with correct info.
Feb 10, 2024 · Mary FI was very unhappy with the course and curriculum. If you take west coast seriously and want to actually learn the dance, this place felt like a highly monetized trap. The entire thing boils down to an endless series of payments to compete in a competition whose reward is not worth the effort. The instructor quality is also not great. It's a great 15$ deal for a 3 hour social dance but other then that I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.REPLY TO THE COMMENT BELOW. Your group classes are 15$ but your private classes are between 70$ to 90$. There are unlisted requirements to be a part of your intermediate and advanced classes. The only way a beginner can meet those requirements are by taking those private classes. Then half the time your core group classes teach dance routines which can only be done if memorized, cannot be done socially. I was in those classes for months and Haley and Deon pulled every tactic possible to force you into core competitions from simply incentivizing you to becoming a better dancer or make it a question of your self worth by using sentences as "If you don't do this you are just not capable of it". Once the dancer takes that path it gives Haley and Deon the opportunity to make more money as they can schedule more classes. After all somebody needs to pay for the flight cost when those two go and participate in competitions. Also, don't get me started on the number of times Robert misbehaved with a student, mostly women, in his class almost with the intent of telling them to get lost from the institute. Finally you have decent West Coast Swing dancers, sure, that doesn't mean they don't steal or screw around with the dance. As far as all star level, your instructors participate in those competitions they don't win those competitions. Participation and winning are two different things. To be frank, with the kind of stunts you guys pull it's almost karma that you lose every time. As far as my experience with you guys went, I wouldn't take a private class from you even if you paid me to. I ended up in the situation of I know multiple routines in West Coast Swing that I can't do with anybody outside of your institution and then I look like a fool when I tell them I am an advanced dancer in West Coast Swing.
Aug 05, 2023 · Peter PhilipsThe people at the contradances on the 3rd Saturday of every month are so friendly! Everyone asks the newcomers to dance and helps them learn. Just come at 7:30, wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to dance a lot. Admission is only $10. The band will play 2 waltzes, one during the break, before snacktime, and one at the end, around 10:30.
Apr 28, 2023 · Lois DayThis is an interesting place! A few party rooms with serving kitchens. We were here for a birthday party. The floor is hardwood and good for dancing or just talking. We had a DJ/Kareoke and the acoustics were fine. I have no idea of prices because we were guests.
Nov 07, 2022 · Jeffrey CohenHere's a great studio that really is all about and for the community. Either the entire venue or a part of it (as there are four sizes of room) can be reserved for private events. I come for the weekly West Coast Swing. On Wednesdays, there are lessons from 7 to 9 and then there is social dancing afterwards that can end as early as 11 or go until after 1 a.m. Beginner lessons are always free and are taught by owner Robert Nelson himself. Intermediate lessons are $10, and attending either set of lessons (each is 2 hours long and has a more basic first-half so if you want you can come at 8p for the second half only) gets you into the social dance. If you come only for the social dance, it is $5. My background is East Coast Swing, so I came in as a true beginner here and was really made to feel comfortable by the instructors and other dancers.
