The Turning Pointe Introduce
This content is provided to address inquiries about "The Turning Pointe," located at 1030 Harden St, Columbia, SC 29205, USA. This overview aims to present factual information based on available public data and customer feedback for residents of South Carolina.
It is important to clarify that based on the provided customer reviews, "The Turning Pointe" appears to specialize as a dance supply store, rather than a general sporting goods store. The reviews specifically mention dance shoes, tights, and ballet shoes, indicating a focus on dance apparel and footwear.
While the initial request was to generate a promotional and informative article, the nature of the provided customer reviews presents a mixed perspective that must be accurately represented. Adhering to the principle of being "always factual" and not inventing information, this overview will reflect the available public sentiment.
Location and Accessibility:
The Turning Pointe is located at 1030 Harden St, Columbia, SC 29205, USA. This address places the establishment in the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, a central location that is generally accessible from various parts of the city and surrounding areas. Harden Street is a well-known thoroughfare, facilitating relatively easy navigation for customers driving to the store.
Its urban location suggests accessibility via various modes of transport, including personal vehicles. Parking availability would depend on the specific storefront and surrounding street parking regulations in this busy commercial area of Columbia. For local residents, a central Columbia location often means convenience, being within a reasonable drive from different neighborhoods and other city amenities.
Services Offered (Based on customer reviews):
- Sale of dance shoes (e.g., ballet shoes, pointe shoes implied by name).
- Sale of dance apparel, such as tights.
- Assistance with dance shoe fittings.
Features / Highlights (Based on customer feedback):
Based on the provided customer reviews, there are varying experiences reported by patrons:
- Positive Experience with Ease and Initial Satisfaction: One customer reported a positive experience, stating, "The ladies here made things quick and easy and my new shoes were great for my first class, excited to go back and buy my tights! 馃グ" This suggests that some customers find the process efficient and are satisfied with their initial purchases.
- Concerns Regarding Shoe Fitting Advice: A significant negative highlight involves the shoe fitting process. A customer explicitly stated, "The lady and fellow here insisted it needs to fit like this their feet should be tight in the shoe etc etc. We get to class against mt better judgement, and 2 mins into class their shoes are off and they鈥檙e crying." This indicates a potential issue with the fitting expertise or the advice given regarding the appropriate fit for children's dance shoes, leading to discomfort and an unusable product.
- Strict Exchange Policy Noted: The same negative review highlighted a strict exchange policy, where shoes that had "left the building even if not worn" could not be exchanged. This policy, combined with a poor initial fit, resulted in the customer needing to "spend another $60 on top of the $90 for a pair of shoes" for a usable pair. This suggests a potentially rigid customer service approach regarding returns or exchanges.
- Mixed Customer Service Perceptions: While one review mentioned "the ladies here made things quick and easy," another critically stated, "Yall suck. Honestly. Stop trying shoes on peoples children when you have no idea what you鈥檙e doing. Rip off. Shop somewhere more personable, preferably in Lexington." This illustrates a stark contrast in customer service perceptions.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals (with considerations):
For residents of South Carolina, particularly those in Columbia and surrounding areas, "The Turning Pointe" is a local establishment that specializes in dance supplies, including shoes and apparel. Its central location on Harden Street makes it a convenient option for those in need of specific dance-related items within the city.
However, it is important for local users to be aware of the mixed customer feedback, particularly concerning the shoe fitting process for children and the store's exchange policy. While some customers have reported quick and satisfactory experiences, others have encountered significant issues that resulted in discomfort for their children and additional expenses due to perceived poor fitting advice and a non-flexible return policy once items leave the store.
Prospective customers in South Carolina seeking dance supplies from The Turning Pointe are advised to proceed with informed caution, especially when purchasing fitted items like dance shoes. It may be beneficial to clarify fitting guarantees and exchange policies in detail prior to purchase, particularly for children's footwear. For those who find the fit satisfactory, the store may provide the necessary items; however, the reported experiences suggest that not all customers have a smooth or positive interaction, particularly regarding specialized fitting services.

The Turning Pointe Reviews
I was nervous to even walk in bc I haven't danced in ages. The ladies here made things quick and easy and my new shoes were great for my first class, excited to go back and buy my tights! 馃グ
May 02, 2025 路 Lauren KingIf I could zero stars I would. The whole time we were trying on shoes my children were saying too small too tight. The lady and fellow here insisted it needs to fit like this their feet should be tight in the shoe etc etc. We get to class against mt better judgement, and 2 mins into class their shoes are off and they鈥檙e crying. So we come right back and spend another $60 on top of the $90 for a pair of shoes since they can鈥檛 exchange when the shoes have left the building even if not worn. Yall suck. Honestly. Stop trying shoes on peoples children when you have no idea what you鈥檙e doing. Rip off. Shop somewhere more personable, preferably in Lexington.
May 16, 2025 路 Just KieshThey are very knowledgeable about how to size for tap shoes. The store is well stocked with everything needed for dance classes.
Mar 12, 2025 路 T. ChamberlainI knew nothing of dance took 3 kids to the turning point. The owner was very helpful, got us all squared away ready for dancing lessons. Thank you again.
Nov 30, 2024 路 Walt BrennanStaff not very welcoming at all. I waked in and the two women there didn鈥檛 even say hello to me and looked at me as if I had 10 heads when I asked about Bloch ballet and jazz shoes. The woman helping my child try on her dance shoes seemed as if she did not want to be helping her. Will not be returning back.
