For residents of Mountain View and the broader California Bay Area with a passion for dance, or for parents seeking an exceptional classical ballet education for their children, Pacific Ballet Academy stands as a revered institution. More than just a school, PBA is a vibrant community dedicated to the art form, offering rigorous training rooted in the traditions of Russian Ballet. Whether your goal is a professional dance career, enhancing physical fitness, or simply finding joy in movement, Pacific Ballet Academy provides a welcoming and serious environment where dancers of all ages and abilities can flourish. This article delves into the unique offerings of Pacific Ballet Academy, highlighting its accessible location, diverse programs, distinguishing features, and why it's an ideal choice for locals.
Established in 1985 by Founding Director Marion Chaeff, Pacific Ballet Academy began as a small studio with a profound mission: to pass on her deep love and extensive training experience in classical ballet to the next generation. Over the span of more than 30 years, the academy has grown significantly, reflecting its unwavering commitment to quality instruction and fostering a strong dance community. Under the continued leadership, including her daughter Rima Chaeff as co-Director, PBA has expanded its campus and solidified its reputation as a premier ballet school in Silicon Valley.
Pacific Ballet Academy adheres to the philosophy of legendary figures like Agrippina Vaganova, Alexandra Danilova, and George Balanchine, who emphasized the quality of ballet instruction over mere quantity. This approach, similar to that of selective schools like the School of American Ballet in New York City, ensures that students receive meticulous attention and comprehensive training. The curriculum is primarily based on the Russian system of dance training, which is foundational in many major professional schools globally, while also incorporating other ballet styles to ensure students can adapt to diverse dance and choreographic techniques. This blend of rigorous tradition and adaptability prepares students for the evolving demands of the dance world.
What truly sets Pacific Ballet Academy apart, as highlighted by numerous testimonials, is the dedication of its faculty and the supportive atmosphere it cultivates. Instructors like Mariana are praised for their "creative teaching style," ability to "break stuff down," and helping technique "improve every time." This dedication extends to ensuring a "true community" where teachers "take it very seriously" while maintaining a nurturing environment. For local families, this means not only exceptional technical training but also a focus on developing confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.

Pacific Ballet Academy Reviews
Really fantastic adult ballet program. There is a true community and the teachers take it very seriously. I particularly like Mariana’s creative teaching style because she breaks stuff down but also moves fast so you feel like your technique improves every time you go. She has the best teaching of spotting I’ve ever seen any instructor teach, including top adult ballet instructors at Alvin Ailey and Ballet Academy East in NYC. Patricia and Irina are also great. My one nitpick is that I wish they offered the classes both days on the weekends because it’s hard for me to make it on Sundays.
Apr 25, 2025 · Tina TangI love this little school so much. The Director and her mother are gems. They are so sweet and loving, patient and gentle with the kids. Dance camp is so much fun - they had a tea party where the staff served the children and watching the recital on Friday was such a joy. Those are the moments I deeply cherish! They have many opportunities for the children to perform on a large professional stage(nutcracker, spring showcase) which really helps my child grow in her confidence!
Aug 10, 2024 · Chris BGreat, encouraging teachers who make all children feel included. Regular opportunities for the children to participate in shows—the Nutcracker, for example. We tried Western Ballet, too, but this felt much warmer. Though it's only through a small window, parents of the younger children can observe the class. At Western ballet, that wasn't allowed. Seems easier to get in and out of too, parking wise. Also, if you're trying to do swim classes, there's a swim school right across the street.
