John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School Introduce
For families across Georgia, particularly those residing in Augusta and the surrounding Richmond County, the search for a truly exceptional secondary education often leads to a unique institution: John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School. Nestled in the heart of downtown Augusta, Davidson, as it's affectionately known, stands as a beacon of academic rigor and artistic excellence. It's a public magnet school designed for students in grades 6 through 12 who possess a passion and aptitude for the fine and performing arts, combined with a strong commitment to challenging academics. For local Georgians seeking an educational environment that nurtures both intellectual curiosity and creative expression, Davidson offers an unparalleled experience.
Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School has earned a national reputation for its distinctive dual focus. Beyond a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum, including a robust offering of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, the school provides intensive training in diverse fine arts disciplines such as visual arts, music (including chorus and instrumental), dance, cinema production, and theatre. This integration of arts into academics is not merely an extracurricular add-on; it's a foundational philosophy. The school believes that students learn to be more focused in their academics by integrating the arts, understanding that the discipline and preparation required in artistic pursuits translate directly to success in the classroom. This rigorous approach, while challenging, is designed to prepare students for success in higher education and beyond.
The school's commitment to excellence is evidenced by its consistent recognition as a top-performing institution. It has been lauded as a National Grammy Signature School and has frequently been ranked among the top schools in Georgia and even nationally by publications like Newsweek. While the intensity of the curriculum is acknowledged by both students and parents – with some noting the demanding pace and high expectations – the overwhelming sentiment from those who have thrived there is one of profound gratitude and transformative growth. As one parent eloquently stated, "It’s tough it’s hard… but oh my gosh it’s amazing. The teachers are not just teachers. They are inspiring and I thank them for the most wonderful six years you gave us. Thank you. I can not imagine a better experience. You helped to make my son the man he is." This speaks to the school's profound impact on its students' character and future trajectories.

John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School Reviews
I have been a student here for 3 years and I have really regret making the choice of going to this school. This is my last year, and I am happy about it. I have gotten really bad anxiety and depression from the three I have been here. I have to leave this school because of my grades, and it is not my fault. This school provides no help when it comes to kids who learn in different ways that they have to learn. They teach their lesions too fast for their kids to learn them and understand them, and they give too many tests in one week! I have really been suffering since I have started this school. Please do not put your kids in this school! It will make their lives so much harder!
May 01, 2025 · lailaQuite simply the very best school you could EVER wish your child could be lucky enough to get to. It’s tough it’s hard … but oh my gosh it’s amazing. The teachers are not just teachers. They are inspiring and I thank them for the most wonderful six years you gave us. Thank you. I can not imagine a better experience. You helped to make my son the man he is.I also wanted to add that my son came from five years at Augusta prep but struggled for his first year at Davidson. This school is tough. But it’s so worth it. It breaks my heart that he’s graduating this year.
Feb 25, 2024 · Tara Pegg-FurbyDefinitely has some of the most skilled, efficient, talented, professional, upmost qualified, and brilliant Fine Arts Educational staff to teach children. However, Academic Educational staff not so much. Academics aside this school is an excellent school for children leaning towards the fine arts.
Aug 15, 2024 · Daisy MillsMy expectations of this school were very high until my daughter went to school here. I knew it would be challenging; however, when she needed support and I needed support there was none. I asked for a conference with the Assistant Principal, the male one, and never even got a reply back from him. After many failed attempts to try to get my daughter back on track, I was informed that "Davidson isn't for everyone". My daughter is just as good as any other student there; however, there lack of support and fake facade they put on at this school put a very bitter taste in my mouth. Unless you are good being thrown to the wolves with no help and no assistance when needed. IF you want a magnet school I HIGHLY recommend RCTCM or AR Johnson.
Jan 31, 2024 · WhitneyHey! Rising seventh grader here. This is a really great, cultural and diverse school. If you're willing to put your child in this school, watch out for the teachers who will call you over a single missing assignment from the beginning of the school year. Some will even say things about you that have nothing to do with the situation. One teacher called my mom over an unfinished assignment (which we were still working on, IN CLASS.) and then proceeded to rant about me wearing little tiny star stickers under my eyes (i kid you not). But besides that, counseling is okay here too and fine arts are great. If you're expecting a Michelin Star meal here, lower your standards and bring your own lunch. Thanks for reading my review, and if you audition, have a great time!
