May 14, 2025 · Aprill EvansNo class here. Gross lyrics. And Dads that support this kind of dance/lyrics are gross too. Really gross. Really, really, really gross. It definitely raises an eyebrow. . .The costumes were questionable too. Shame on CDA for putting on such a nasty performance and shame on fathers that enjoy watching young ladies dance to such nasty music. Gross.
Jul 01, 2025 · Mario AMy daughter has been at this dance school for around 10 years now and we couldn't be happier. Throughout both owners being there my daughter and I have both had a great experience. I would and have recommended Core to many friends and acquaintances. Thanks for everything.JJ & Laila Thomas
May 22, 2025 · Jeremy ThomasCore Dance Academy dropped the ball on modesty this year. Once the playlist for recital was released, our daughter wanted nothing to do with it and dropped out immediately. Though her costume and song were appropriate, she won't have her performance recorded to USB and/or DVD and made available for purchase alongside other minors performing to the likes of "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish and "Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette. She will not participate in the objectification of young dancers. Once you see the playlist, which also includes a version of "This Is Me," by Keala Settle and "Fierce" by Che' Nelle, you see the final product and all we see is a Pandora's box. "'I am not a stranger to the dark "Hide away, " they say "'Cause we don't want your broken parts" I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars "Run away, " they say "No one'll love you as you are..." How's that for a child's theme song? And then there's this from "Fierce": "...flip your hair No one can do it better Swing your hips, and lick them lips yea....Move it like you own it." Taken altogether with other songs like "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie, the content is a bit disturbing. I would not be surprised if dancers wake up some day and feel ashamed and embarrassed after dancing in this recital; they may even feel betrayed for being encouraged and allowed to perform to such filth. Here's a peek at some of the more problematic lyrics- Remember, these are young girls performing on stage and even younger girls listening and watching backstage: "Like anyone would be I am flattered by your fascination with me Like any hot-blooded woman I have simply wanted an object to crave But you, you're not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slight..." (Alanis Morissette: "Uninvited.") Then there's this gem: "...Bruises on both my knees for you Don't say thank you or please I do what I want when I'm with you...So you're a tough guy, like it really rough guy? Just can't get enough guy, chest always so puffed guy I'm that bad type, make your mama sad type Make your girlfriend mad tight, might seduce your dad type..." Etc. (Eilish: "Bad Guy.") Note: It's almost funny, except it's not, that CDA blurred "might seduce your dad type" from the audio but left everything else intact including this noxious little humdinger: "I like it when you take control Even if you know that you don't own me I'll let you play the role I'll be your animal..." (Eilish: "Bad Guy.") Is this modest? No. It's not even close to acceptable. Is this what you want for your little girl? You want her up on stage performing to songs about being a hot-blooded woman with two bruised knees for you? Is that a healthy message? Of course not- It's repulsive and if you're not condemning it, you're condoning it. We should protect our youth from such degradation. We should prize virtue and dignity. Neither of which can be found within these lyrics. Core no longer sets itself apart with the upholding of higher standards, especially when it comes to modesty. No studio is perfect, but this is a non-negotiable point of concern, a concern backed by empirical evidence not just opinion, about the dangers of hypersexualizing children in dance. This studio tells newcomers and existing families they take modesty seriously and if there's ever a questionable lyric, they edit it out. That's not what happened this time. CDA has taken a sharp turn in the wrong direction. It's no longer an ideal environment. CDA no longer has our business or recommendation. When looking for a studio, be prudent. Do your research; inappropriate dance lyrics are a danger to developing minds, esteem, and bodies. When I brought these concerns to staff, the person I spoke with hadn't read the lyrics and beyond a cordial 'we're disheartened to see you go' from Miss Alison after I sent an email to let her know our values no longer align, nobody seems interested in having the conversation. But really, what can be said? It's indefensible. They offer steller instruction here, but as a child advocate, I won't leave more than 1 star.-Kim (and family)
