This welcoming studio stands out as a vibrant community hub where individuals of all ages and skill levels can discover or rekindle their passion for movement. Whether you're an adult looking to try something new, a child eager to learn their first plié, or a teenager aiming to refine their technique, Blue Studio Dance offers a supportive and encouraging environment to help you achieve your goals.
Blue Studio Dance was co-founded by Amber Cameron and Darcy Boynton, two accomplished individuals who initially crossed paths as cast members of "Oklahoma!" at The Sharon Playhouse. Their shared passion for dance and dedication to nurturing talent led them to realize a long-held aspiration: opening their own studio. Their aim is to extend the gift of dance to the area's children, from four-year-olds to teenagers, while also embracing adult learners. This commitment to serving a wide age range underscores their belief that dance is a lifelong pursuit, offering benefits to everyone.
The studio has quickly established itself as a top destination in the region, largely due to its incredibly talented instructors. As noted by a highly satisfied adult student, the instructors at Blue Studio Dance possess a remarkable ability to "meet you where you are, but expertly encourage you to move to the next level." This personalized approach ensures that beginners feel comfortable and supported, while more experienced dancers are challenged to grow and refine their skills. The patient guidance and expert instruction are key factors in the studio's success in fostering development across all levels.
Blue Studio Dance offers a diverse array of classes, ensuring there's "truly something for everyone." For adults, the studio provides a serene yet challenging experience with "Adult Ballet with Amber," focusing on calm concentration and technique. For those seeking high-energy workouts and a fun atmosphere, "Dance It Out with Ellen" is a popular choice, known for its invigorating pace. Additionally, a variety of "phenomenal weekly specialty classes" further broaden the offerings, including a lively Latin Dance class taught by competitive dancer Tara Xheladin, covering styles such as Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, and Paso Doble.
Beyond the technical instruction, the instructors at Blue Studio Dance have cultivated a truly "fun and supportive community." This strong sense of camaraderie among students is a significant highlight, making classes something to eagerly anticipate each week. It’s a place where individuals can not only learn dance but also build friendships, share their passion, and feel a genuine sense of belonging. This community aspect enhances the overall experience, turning classes into a cherished part of many locals' weekly routines.
For Amber Cameron and Darcy Boynton, dance transcends mere physical exertion. They emphasize that "the ballet classes are more than just a workout," offering toning, balance, and mental engagement through following combinations. Darcy Boynton further adds that "learning about your body and its space is so important for children and adults," highlighting the foundational benefits of dance for overall body awareness and confidence. Their philosophy posits that dance is an "essential skill," fostering comfort in one's own body and the confidence that naturally stems from it, regardless of whether one pursues a professional dance career.
The studio welcomes students of all ages, from young children (starting at four years old) to teens, offering foundational classes in ballet, tap, jazz, and more. This commitment to nurturing the next generation of dancers, while simultaneously providing robust programs for adults, makes Blue Studio Dance a comprehensive and inclusive arts education provider in the Lakeville area. The instructors' involvement in choreographing student productions at various local schools, including The Hotchkiss School and Housatonic Valley Regional High School, further demonstrates their deep roots and dedication to the Connecticut dance community.
