Beauty in Movement Hoop Dance Introduce
In the bustling urban landscape of Portland, Oregon, lies a unique haven for wellness and creative expression: Beauty in Movement Hoop Dance. This isn't your average gym or meditation studio; it's a vibrant space dedicated to the art and meditative practice of hoop dance. Led by the remarkably talented and empathetic Laura Aszman, Beauty in Movement offers Oregonians a distinctive path to physical fitness, mental clarity, and profound self-discovery through the joyful rhythm of the hoop.
Hoop dance, often mistaken for simple hula hooping, is an intricate and beautiful flow art that combines movement, music, and mindfulness. It's an engaging full-body workout that simultaneously calms the mind, fostering a "flow state" similar to meditation. At Beauty in Movement, the focus is not just on learning tricks, but on cultivating a fluid, expressive, and personalized dance. Laura's teaching philosophy creates an environment where every student, regardless of their starting point, feels comfortable, valued, and empowered to explore their own unique movement journey. It’s a space where physical activity transforms into artistic expression and a profound sense of well-being.
One grateful client raved, "Laura is one of the most genuinely talented people I've ever known. I'm so grateful that I've been able to experience TWO of her art forms as a client! Hooping: Laura is such an approachable and down-to-earth teacher who has a way of making all of her students feel so comfortable and welcome and valued for who they individually are, regardless of where they are ability-wise in their hoop journey! After years of searching for a flow-state activity to replace rock climbing, I'm very excited to say that I finally found that in hooping. Whereas various online videos I watched taught hooping 'moves' or 'tricks' in isolation, Laura's teaching approach is very fluid and personalized, with the culmination of each series of classes amounting to a cohesive, graceful 'flow.' I was super impressed with what I was able to do after just 8 weeks of instruction! I am eternally grateful to Laura by guiding me in my practice of this beautiful form of movement." Another shared, "I just completed Laura’s foundation for going class. Even though I have been hooping for over a year, it was the best decision to make! I learned so much and my hooping skills have improved immensely. I learned new tricks and techniques which definitely can be seen in my dancing and flow. I have already signed up for Laura’s shoulder hooping class. I know I will be killing it shoulder hooping by the end of May. Laura is patient and I believe she truly cares about us as human beings. Laura creates a safe learning environment and I feel free with abandon every time I hoop with her. Laura sincerely gives back to and builds community. She could give Joan of Arc a run for her money!!" These powerful testimonials highlight the transformative power of Laura's teaching and the unique benefits of hoop dance.

Apr 07, 2022 · Judith WilliamsI really stepped out of my comfort zone when signing up for Laura's online hooping class, and I am so glad I did! It was such a wonderful way to feel connected to people during this crazy time. The class time flew by and at the end I always had a sense of accomplishment for picking up a couple new techniques, and of course carving out some special "me time". Laura is always encouraging and has some easy to follow tips to get the technique down! She's always willing to do some one on one to ensure your success! Thank you Laura for bringing some fun back into my workouts!
May 26, 2020 · Tanya KowalkowskiI have been involved with some form of movement practice most of my life. As a yoga instructor and personal trainer, I am always seeking new ways of staying fit while connecting to the deepest parts of myself and staying open to joyful living. I was attracted to hooping because it looked fun and beautiful. After my first couple of classes, I realized the practice had so much more to offer on a spiritual level than I ever imagined. Laura is a one of a kind soul. She holds the sweetest space for you to explore this wonderful practice. Her instruction is clear, really fun and encouraging. I leave every class feeling empowered, a little sassier and so playful! I will be taking my 3rd session with Laura to kick off the new year in 2019 and can not wait. I am hooping almost daily at home and couldn't be having more fun with it. Thanks Laura!
Dec 29, 2018 · Mary Wagstaff (Mind Body Coaching)The most surprising thing about Laura is what she showed me about myself. As a teacher she uplifts, supports, engages and inspires - her dedication to her own learning, bringing this to her students and ensuring from complete beginner to highly advanced learners are catered for, speaks to her depth of Hoop Mastery. This teaching and enthusiasm for movement translates and you could say comes out of her love for style, aesthetics and holistic haircare, as I’ve also now met almost a hundred people who think she is truly amazing, and rely on her for their hair care. The easiest way to tell when someone hair has been ‘touched by Laura’s hands’ is they are so distinct when coming towards you, their sense of self and their aesthetic are integrated. She supports people to shine, inside and out, and makes it accessible whoever you are, whatever gender and whatever age.Don’t miss out, you’re worth it!Thanks Laura.
