The Academy of Russian Ballet provides a complete classical training program designed to cultivate well-rounded dancers, from early childhood to pre-professional levels. Their services are deeply rooted in the Vaganova method and focus on both technical mastery and artistic expression:
- Classical Ballet Training (Vaganova Method): This is the core offering, providing rigorous and systematic instruction in the Vaganova (Russian) ballet technique. Classes progress through various levels, emphasizing proper alignment, strength, flexibility, grace, and artistry.
- Pre-Ballet and Early Childhood Programs: Tailored for the youngest dancers (e.g., ages 3.5-6), these programs introduce fundamental ballet vocabulary, posture, coordination, and rhythm in a developmentally appropriate and engaging manner, laying a strong foundation.
- Pre-Professional Program: For serious dancers with professional aspirations, ARB offers an intensive program designed to prepare students for auditions to top national and international ballet programs and companies. This includes multiple ballet technique classes per week, pointe work, and potentially conditioning.
- Recreational and Casual Classes: While renowned for its serious training, ARB also welcomes students who wish to dance for enjoyment, offering classes that provide quality instruction in a less demanding schedule for those not pursuing a professional path.
- Pointe Work: Essential for advanced female ballet dancers, pointe classes focus on developing strength, technique, and artistry en pointe, introduced at the appropriate age and skill level.
- Contemporary and Modern Dance: In addition to classical ballet, the academy typically offers classes in contemporary and modern dance to provide students with versatility and exposure to different styles of movement, broadening their artistic horizons.
- Performance Opportunities: ARB provides extensive professional performance experience. Students participate in fully staged productions, often alongside international guest artists, performing most roles. This includes major ballets like "The Nutcracker" and annual Spring Performances. They also participate in community festivals.
- Audition Preparation: The academy supports students in preparing for auditions for summer intensives, college programs, and professional companies, leveraging their faculty's expertise and industry connections.
- Dance Conditioning: While not explicitly listed as separate services on all public data, comprehensive ballet schools often integrate conditioning like Pilates, PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique), and stretch/strength classes to support healthy dancer development and injury prevention.
- Private and Semi-Private Lessons: Available for individualized coaching, technique refinement, or preparation for competitions and auditions.

Academy of Russian Ballet Reviews
Outstanding ballet instruction by award-winning instructors. Family atmosphere, lots of classes for the serious dancer, and casual, alike. My daughter danced here for years and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
Jan 24, 2024 · Kelly MuzzinMy student came from another ballet school, and the advancement was noticeable within the first class. I really admire the commitment and excellence of the faculty at ARB.They put up 2 professional shows every year, and you can't tell that they're students only.If you are looking for great classes and amazing teachers, you are in the right place.
Oct 18, 2023 · Mitzi GarciaMy 9 yr old son loves it here! He is in Ballet 4 program right now and we are very happy with the personal attention to detail and style of instruction. If you are looking for the best ballet program in the area and outstanding instructors, ARB has an impressive reputation that is evident in their students' performances receiving scholarships to prestigious ballet programs and winning many awards . My son loves the opportunity to entertain and perform during winter and Spring programs! The studio set high standards to prepare the kids for pre-professional opportunities if they want it or a no pressure approach if that works better for your child. All the kids are very respectful and studio has a family feel as well! My son looks forward to his classes every week!
Feb 22, 2020 · Tiffany AquinoWe recently moved to this studio, and I am beyond thrilled. The owners of this studio won the teacher award for the past two years at YAGP.My daughter is receiving excellent Instruction and technique. She tells me that the corrections are thorough and also address how the proper technique affects not only her dancing, but also her muscles and her body. She finds the combinations challenging and wakes up in the morning reasonably sore from a good class workout.Classes are varied - mostly classical Russian ballet with modern and conditioning twice a week. I love that they include conditioning. My daughter is just finishing some physical therapy to address some knee issues. She tells me that the conditioning classes at ARB include many of the exercises she has had at physical therapy.I also love the hours. Perfect for a high school student who wants to balance dance with high school. FYI - daughter is 15 and has been dancing since she was 4. LOVE ARB!!!
Mar 10, 2020 · Karen HersheyMy child has been a part of this family-oriented studio since 2009. Yuri and Jasmine Nikitenko have struck a very rare balance of putting their students and the quality of their training before their business itself. With that, they are still able to increase their success within Northern Virginia. My child's progression was being monitored starting on her first day as a beginner, and she has progressed through their program steadily ever since. They offer classes that are appropriate for different ages of beginner, those who are simply looking for an activity and finally for those who are looking to make the art of dance into a lifestyle and future. Their training techniques lay a solid foundation for their students, which in my daughter, have been praised by outside dance professionals. The students are exposed to not just the Russian form of ballet itself, but also the culture and history from which this style of ballet originated. As a whole, this studio is extremely special and can only increase in success over the years. We are very proud to be a part of it.
