The Outpost Club Introduce
Howdy, Colorado! Are you looking to step back in time and experience the true spirit of the Old West right here in Aurora? The Outpost Club offers a unique glimpse into Colorado's rich history, particularly its vibrant dance traditions. This venue is touted by many as "the real deal" for an authentic, intimate, and relaxed party atmosphere, feeling like a direct portal to the bygone days of the Wild West. For those with an appreciation for history and a desire to learn traditional western dances, The Outpost Club presents itself as a distinctive choice.
More than just a place to dance, The Outpost Club is deeply rooted in the preservation of Colorado's official state folk dance: square dancing. It's championed by its owner, George Smith, described as a living legend in the square dancing community since the 1930s. Here, you'll find an environment dedicated to maintaining the traditional art of square dance, including a focus on the classic songs that defined "modern western square dance" in its early days. For those interested in round dancing, a cued form of ballroom, lessons are also reportedly available, offering a versatile dance education.
The club members, often described as among the warmest and most welcoming people, contribute to an inviting atmosphere where learning to dance is seen as a fun way to exercise, sharpen the mind, and forge lifelong friendships. It’s presented as an opportunity to be part of preserving a cherished state tradition. However, it's important for potential visitors to note that while many reviews paint a picture of historical charm and welcoming community, some recent experiences indicate significant concerns regarding customer service, venue suitability for diverse events, and professional conduct. We highly recommend direct communication with the venue to ensure it aligns with your specific event needs and expectations.
The Outpost Club is located at 10101 E Colorado Ave, Aurora, CO 80247, USA. This address places it in Aurora, a significant city within the Denver metropolitan area, making it broadly accessible to residents across the Front Range. While it's noted as being "easily accessible from the highway," it is also described as being "tucked back among trees and surrounded with nostalgia," suggesting a location that offers both convenience and a sense of escape from urban hustle.
For Colorado locals, reaching The Outpost Club should be relatively straightforward, especially for those utilizing personal vehicles. The property features a "gravel parking lot," and for large groups, a "parking attendant will be provided," indicating a thoughtful approach to managing guest arrivals, despite the rustic feel. The venue's slightly secluded yet accessible nature contributes to its old-world charm, making visitors feel as though they've "stepped back into another time and place." This blend of accessibility and a nostalgic setting enhances the overall experience for those seeking a unique, traditional western dance environment. However, for event planners, it is crucial to confirm all logistical details directly with the venue, especially concerning parking management for specific event sizes, as well as any other concerns raised in varied customer experiences to ensure that the accessible location truly translates to a smooth event operation for all attendees.

The Outpost Club Reviews
If you are looking for "the real deal" experience of Colorado from the old Wild West days, check out the Outpost for an intimate and relaxed party, no "special decorations" needed! The musical entertainment is provided, so just bring an appreciation for history and anyone from any walk of life with an open mind to learn some traditional western dances. The caterers are great and have been exclusively hosting delightful and delicious events for many years. The venue, easily accessible from the highway yet tucked back amoung trees and surrounded with nostalgia, will make you feel like you have stepped back into another time and place. It is truly the Old West from the front porch entry and original swinging doors right down to the kitchen and powder rooms. The parking lot is gravel and if hosting a large group, a parking attendant will be provided. The owner really knows his stuff and has been a living legend (since the 1930's) in the preservation and history of Colorado's official state folk dance- square dancing.Square dance lessons are available, and club members are amoung the warmest and most welcoming people we have ever come across. Square dancing is a great way to mix exercise and mind-sharpening (...better than crossword puzzles! Get out and learn to dance!...) while having fun & making life-long friendships. Come join us & be a part of preserving our state folk dance! At the Outpost, the decor is authentic and charming, everything is very clean and climate-controlled, & the dance floor is the original wood which has been painstakingly maintained.I was born in 1975, so I'm "young & hip" enough to say that square dancing is where it's at, and the most traditional place you will find IT being maintained is at George Smith's Outpost. There are 19 square dance clubs we enjoy in the Denver area, most featuring modern music led by both phenomenal out of state National callers as well as our wildly talented local and Colorado state callers, but if you want a traditional education in the art of square dance (or round dancing which is a cued form of ballroom), a taste of the old songs that marked the beginning of what was coined in the 30's as "modern western square dance", and to be known as one of the best & most versatile dancers around, you'll want to learn from the legend.Molly Baines & Marshall Blaney°Past Presidents, Denver Area Square & Round Dance Council°Vice Presidents, Colorado State Square Dance Association°Grand Squares (at the Outpost) club members
Jun 30, 2017 · Marshall & Molly BlaneyI am a wedding and event planner and had the opportunity to visit this venue. When I spoke with the owner to make appointment to see the venue I was told to come right over. I went and when I arrived I was confronted by a nasty looking dog. I went in and to my surprise there was another dog roaming from the kitchen area to the front door. I explained to the owner that I was afraid of doge but he refused to remove them.I sat and spoke with the owner and told him what I was looking for. This event is a Birthday Party for a couple 10/25/14. I expressed I would do my own food, had a DJ and it would be 65 to 70 people attending this event. The owner sat back in his chair and told me first of all he did not fill that the couple paying for their event could not afford his venue. Then he stated that his floors would be messed up if I did not let him a bus boy and his caterer plan this event. The venue smelled bad and I explained that my crew would do the decorating with white table cloths, the food would be set up buffet style and the couple did not have a specific budget. I also stated to the owner that we would cater the food to the couples health issues and that they could not eat just anything.I was shocked when the owner stated that he wanted to DJ and would play country and western music. He stated that his crew that consists of him and 2 other people would have to come through the party to teach everyone how to dance. I told him that there would be a short program and I did not mind putting them on the program for 1 dance. Finally I was told that he did not feel that Black people would fit into the way he wanted to do this event and that I was "to organized." I felt threatened by his dogs and the way he spoke to me. I got up and excused myself from his presence!I RATE THIS VENUE A -0 ACROSS THE BOARD.Ms. M. MasonLottCEO of Angel Kreations
