Tulsalseros Dance Company - PUEBLO ORGULLO Reviews
This has truly been one of the best experiences I have had! Phillip and Carla are amazing instructors and very welcoming. I came from Detroit, Michigan and needed an outlet in Tulsa. I was so glad I made the call and visited the studio. I am so happy to be a part of the Tulsa salsa community.
May 23, 2017 · EricaThis is a response to the review posted by 'Anonymous User".I'm sorry you were disappointed with your experience. As part of the TulSalsero family, I'd like to apologize. We always strive to make outsiders feel welcomed, like family, but we clearly failed in doing so with you. I know this to be the real and true intention behind TulSalseros because I experienced it firsthand. I was once the outsider and this dance family literally took me in. I also know I'm not the only one that has had this kind of experience.I'm sorry you had a hard time finding people to dance with you. It's true that we tend to feel more comfortable with familiar faces, but it's hard to get picky when there's not a lot of dancers to begin with. As a rule, we usually dance with whoever is willing! I also try to make an effort to scope out new faces and invite them to dance...It really makes me sad that there are people who have that perception of us and are sharing it with others. My guess is that they must have had a negative experience or interaction of their own and held on to that perception. I'm glad they didn't allow that to keep them from coming and supporting but it really bothers me to know their opinion.Everyone is accepted into our "circle". Even when there's personal drama going around (you know, people dating, breaking up, etc.), I honestly haven't known of anyone being shunned and I don't even know how that would be possible with such a small dance community. The owners are my really close friends and they have never discouraged anyone from dancing with a particular person. I will say I have personally discouraged some ladies from dancing with a couple of guys because they are rude, inappropriate, or really creepy. One should always feel safe and comfortable...As a woman, I felt particularly called out on your review. To be fair, as human beings, our natural tendency is to show exclusionary group behavior and this is certainly universal. I'm not trying to justify what you observed or heard, but that's pretty common behavior anywhere you go. When it comes to the bad mouthing though, there's clearly something more going on there that I'm not privy to, some sort of drama I'm sure. As the director of the ladies salsa team, I can own up to the fact that we do talk, a lot, about each other and other people but not in a negative context! We simply like to voice our opinions and stay in the loop of stuff. However, to go as far as saying that we specifically badmouth others is certainly a stretch. If anything we are intentional about breaking that female stereotype and instead empower one another. As humans though, we do make mistakes and sometimes act immaturely, so once again I apologize. We all have our good moments and our bad moments but it's certainly not a trend. Finally, I would like to thank you for sharing your experiences, thoughts and others' opinions. We always welcome feedback and strive to improve in the future. Our studio has actually been closed for a while now but we are still trying to keep Latin dance alive in our city. Dancing is all about the fun for us. It is our happy place and to some like me, it's therapy. Our new home is at Miami Nights. I hope that if you find yourself back I town, you give it a try. We have Latin Thursdays there and sometimes Latin parties on Saturdays. We also support the dance scene in general, so if you find us on Facebook, you'll see all the updates. #BailaTulsa
