The Grand Academy of Ballet - Pasadena Reviews

Dec 10, 2024 · Julia StapetonThis place is a great example of how to run a business into the ground. No care about the clients is given. Hard sell tactics are truly a turn off. This place has a super high turn over, can’t keep its customers because they can’t get it together. The amount of times that class has been canceled with no warning, no notice is unprofessional. If you look at both the Encino and Pasadena website it’s quite impressive, but most of these classes don’t even exist. There is a WhatsApp feed for members to ask questions, leave input but Serge the owner only replies when he has something he wants to communicate, often leaving people in the dark. I don’t want to post all of the texts that he leaves, there are way too many. But I will post one that I felt was incredibly creepy. I know he emails a lot of class pass students without their consent. This was not the case. I received this WhatsApp, out of the blue, we had no agreement that I would be coming to class on that particular day, and it was a little unnerving.Trying to discuss things with Serge has always been tough. It becomes an argument. He can be aggressive. There is no curriculum or base line for beginning students. Every instructor has their own idea of what beginning is. I’ve heard one instructor tell a few beginning students that they didn’t belong in his class, that they needed to be in more of a beginner class. WHAT?Anastasia, Lillet, Elmira, and Yelena are all great. They know what instructors need to bring to help make a class successful. After having structure, discipline and consistency at my previous schools, this place falls flat. There is no posted policy for sinn ups/drop ins. Serge will say no one signed up, class is canceled, but he allows drop ins so he has no way of knowing who is coming on a drop in basis.I look forward to returning to SFBallet. For now Colburn School fits the bill. Same price for an hour and a half class with a half hour of Pilates for warm up. Consistent, no hassle and no surprises. Westside works in a pinch as well. Can’t support someone who has told me they wish they didn’t even have an adult ballet program. He claims he runs a world class program. I would suggest that people get out and look around. There are so many places to try.
