Founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Andrea Duffin, SJBT has cultivated a reputation as a leading institution committed to providing serious dancers with unparalleled training and performance opportunities. This is more than just a dance school; it's a vibrant community where passion for ballet is nurtured, rigorous technique is instilled, and the journey from student to accomplished performer is supported every step of the way.
At South Jersey Ballet Theater, the emphasis is firmly on delivering a high-quality dance education rooted in proper technique and a strong work ethic. Ms. Andrea Duffin and her professional staff believe that true artistic growth stems from a foundation of disciplined training, coupled with a deep understanding of ballet's nuanced artistry. They strive to create an environment where students are challenged, encouraged, and inspired to reach their fullest potential, both physically and artistically.
The impact of SJBT on its students is profound, as evidenced by glowing testimonials from local families. One parent enthusiastically shared, "My daughter started at South Jersey Ballet 5 years ago and it has been the best decision we ever made. She has grown so much in her dancing and has learned so much about having a good work ethic. Ms. Andrea and the rest of her staff teach not only ballet technique but also instill a strong work ethic in their students." This highlights the dual focus on technical mastery and character development that defines the SJBT experience.
The caring and supportive nature of the academy truly sets it apart. The same parent recounted a touching experience: "Ms. Andrea also was incredibly caring to my daughter when she fractured her foot (not at dance) just a few weeks prior to a production and was no longer able to perform. She kept my daughter involved in the show while watching rehearsals and had her by her side to watch the show on the side of the stage. I am incredibly thankful that we found this school and that it has become my daughter’s home away from home." This demonstrates the deep commitment of the staff to their students' well-being, fostering an environment where every dancer feels valued and supported, even through challenges.
SJBT's dedication to its students' long-term success is also remarkable. Another parent’s account speaks volumes: "When my daughter was 9 she discovered how much she loved ballet and that’s when I did my research and found SJB. We started in the Summer and it was amazing to see the difference and emphasis on technique compared to other schools. It became very apparent that Mrs. Andrea Duffin was very professional and made sure that her students knew the proper technique so they did not injure themselves. Andrea was always someone she could go to for advice. She helped teach my daughter hard work, dedication and the willingness to take corrections always pays off. My daughter graduated 7 years later became a member of Houston Ballet II and became a professional dancer with Cincinnati Ballet. I can’t say enough about how lucky we were to find Mrs. Duffin and a dance school like this." This incredible success story, culminating in a professional ballet career, is a testament to the transformative power of SJBT’s rigorous training and nurturing mentorship.

Apr 06, 2022 · Dina ValentinoAs I look to start my own children in ballet (and dance in general) in another state, I am hoping I can find something even close to this! I spent my whole childhood and teen years with Andrea Duffin at the school and theater. This place was absolutely a second home for all of us. The environment was nurturing and positive, disciplined for those wanting to strive for a professional career, and so rewarding on so many levels including personal growth and growth as a dancer. The staff, professional guest teachers, and performances were absolutely amazing to experience and straight up fun. I will always look back on these years as the most rewarding, and I cherish all the memories I made at this studio. I am not sure I will be able to find a school with the same talent, professionalism, performance opportunities, and caliber for my own girls, but one can hope!
Feb 06, 2022 · Rebecca BachelerSouth Jersey Ballet School (home of South Jersey Ballet Theatre) has been my second home for 12 years and I truly can't imagine what my life would be like without everything I have learned there. Andrea Duffin is an outstanding ballet instructor who really cares about the students and wants them to succeed. In addition to learning correct ballet technique, I have learned so many other important lessons such as how to collaborate with others to produce creative results and the importance of hard work and dedication. While taking many classes to improve technique, students are provided with many opportunities to perform in professionally organized full length ballets. There is no better place to study the fine art of ballet in South Jersey than SJB, as Andrea and her team never fail to produce confident, hard-working, and successful young women.
Oct 16, 2016 · Samantha PecanWorst mistake of my life was sending my daughter to south jersey ballet school (sjb/sjbt). Highly do not recommend. Training is horrible, and the community of teachers are starting to get verbally abusive towards their students. The only reason I would rate it one star is because of the bonds that the girls form. Other than that, school s pure trash.School is directed by Andrea Duffin, who might I name the most verbally abusive person I have ever met? My daughters would come home crying each day telling me the nasty remarks they were given in class......no corrections, pure harassment. Please do not make the same mistake I did and enroll your beloved children here. It is not a good school, and the comments will effect them emotionally. (my daughter is currently in therapy to recover from Andrea)
