Sewickley En Pointe Reviews
Tonya is incredibly knowledgeable and a wonderful teacher and mentor to everyone she meets. Contrary to the review below, this is the best facility I have ever encountered. The home is not cluttered or dimly lit and the studio is very up to date and clean. Having the studio in her home allows Tonya to keep classes small and truly build rapport with each of her students and clients. If she were based in another location I strongly doubt she would have the time to invest in each person the way she does now. Her home studio is a great benefit of her business. I have been a student of Tonya’s for over 10 years, taking both ballet and her wellness classes. I have recommended her services to countless friends and family members, something I don’t usually do. If you are looking for a ballet teacher or wellness provider to truly invest a lot of time in you or your child, then look no further. After sustaining a serious head injury over six years ago, Tonya tirelessly researched, studied, and adopted new training techniques to help improve my condition. While traditional physical therapy and other alternative methods were not working, Tonya took action to truly help me in ways no other provider has. I cannot recommend her enough and strongly encourage you to give her studio a try. It just may change your life!

Dec 29, 2019 · Jacqueline PopeTonya is a very intelligent, kind and caring teacher. She understands the body and how it works better than anyone I have ever known. She has a small, private studio in her beautiful home, where she teaches various classes that include ballet, Pilates and body mechanics to all ages. She has offered virtual classes during the pandemic, and works with her students to find the best plan for their instruction. Her dedication to her students is unparalleled. She periodically travels to attend seminars with other professionals in various specialties across her field. Tonya’s mirrored dance floor is spacious and open, with ballet barres and floor mats available as needed. Because her studio and classes are small, she can offer very personalized instruction for not only ballet, but for other private and small group sessions that aim to correct poor body habits and help people move properly, thus avoiding injury, pain and even unnecessary surgeries as they age. I have been with Tonya for three or four years, and in that time have gotten to know her very well. I value her opinion and would not hesitate to recommend her to others, and I’d feel comfortable placing a child of any age in her care. Every aspect of Tonya’s instruction is in the best interest of her students and their bodies, and I trust her knowledge base completely.

Aug 27, 2020 · Carla BWe've known Tonya since we moved here 12 years ago. She came HIGHLY recommended by my daughters' ice skating coaches. She is by far the very best ballet teacher they ever had. I'm not sure who "S" is that gave her a bad review, but it is clear to me as a mother of dancers, the person is quite naive and has NO idea what they are saying and certainly has never been a dancer themselves. Ice skating requires a strong core for nearly every move, especially ice dancing. It was quite obvious that Tonya had the best technique of any ballet instructor we ever used and there were many. Unlike other instructors, Tonya is very patient, works on the dancers' strengths and weaknesses and pays special attention to correct technique so the dancer is less likely to injure him or herself. Also, unlike other ballet instructors, Tonya is very kind and NEVER yells or belittles her dancers. My youngest daughter went on to dance at the college level and was always chosen as one of the premier dancers in the Quaker Valley musicals. My husband and I both also see her for strength training, which is also something she uses to help her dancers. She carefully researches the problems associated with each individual's body shape and/or the problems they have that are causing pain or weakness. Her knowledge of body anatomy is incredible. I once had an issue with my shoulder that a medical doctor would most likely have recommended surgery, however Tonya did a lot of research and strengthened the muscles around the shoulder joint and slowly but surely, my shoulder began to heal in a non-invasive way. I made advancements following each session which, by the way, were completely private. She does both ballet and strength training sessions around your schedule and not the other way around. If I could rate her higher than 5 stars I absolutely would.

Aug 29, 2020 · Edie erkertI have been a client of Tonya’s for over 8 years. I went to her in unbearable pain after shoulder surgery and a disastrous experience with a physical therapist. She was able to guide me through different movements that helped relieve the pain; in subsequent sessions she helped me realize how my movement patterns had contributed to the initial injury. I was so impressed that I sent my son-in-law to her for neck pain, and he had the same experience. Every class is an education, for Tonya is constantly learning new things and generously shares them freely with her clients. Her lovely home where she teaches is quiet, relaxing and conducive to learning. Since spring when the pandemic hit, Tonya has been doing instruction via Zoom. Incredibly, the Zoom classes are just as helpful and informative as her in person classes. It takes a gifted teacher to move seamlessly from in person to online teaching.Tonya truly cares about her clients and goes above and beyond to ensure that they have all the information they need to recover from injuries and to prevent new ones. I feel as if I now have the tools I need to move freely and without pain thanks to her. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Aug 29, 2020 · Judy ZernichAs a mother of five with a busy schedule, two of my girls took ballet from Miss Tonya at Sewickley Enpointe. As a home studio (which I love) the space was always clean, warm and inviting. Tonya always took a great deal of time with each student making sure they were in the correct position for every movement. She taught them to ensure their moves were fundamentally sound, based on a strong core to avoid injury. These days I take ballet at Sewickley En Pointe and the class is the highlight of my week during COVID. I’ve learned the movements, mechanics and language of ballet. In addition, if I have an issue with my body, she will address it immediately. Giving me suggestions on how to avoid pain and improve my physical fitness. Her knowledge of dance, physical therapy and biomechanics is astounding. She has helped our entire family.Because of her knowledge and training in biomechanics, our entire family take Biomechanics classes from Miss Tony at En Pointe in Sewickley. A further testament to the help she provides is evidenced by the fact that my adult children from Colorado, Wisconsin and New Jersey still see her when they come home for a visit. Their loyalty is a tribute to the fact that Tonya sets a tone of respect for all. Moreover, she is patient, considerate, kind and most of all goes the extra mile for her clients. She has taught me how to use, appreciate and care for my body in ways that I never thought were possible. I highly recommend all her classes to my friends and family for she is the best!
