Mar 14, 2019 · Tysha MartinWhen I first brought my god daughter to Malone Dance Studios I was very excited. I read the reviews and thought this would be the best place for her. However, after experiencing her first recital I was highly disappointed. The recital was fine, but for the award ceremony I quickly learned that this studio was all about collecting money. The program for the recital was $10 (I was ok with that), but it was in black and white, and if you wanted your daughter to have a full ad in the program (also in black and white) it was $130. In order for the dancers to get an “achievement award” or a medal you had to pay $15. While little girls were standing up getting an award (their parents paid for) the other little girls had to sit down and feel bad, because they weren’t “good enough” to get a medal. My first problem was I didn’t know I had to buy an award for my five year old to not feel bad or ask “why I didn’t get one like the other girls?” I was so frustrated to see her basically cry on stage, because she didn’t “earn” pay for an award. I felt bad for the other young ladies as well that felt alienated or didn’t feel like they EARNED or wasn’t good enough to get one. I understand if it was a competition, but it wasn’t and every little girl should have received something to acknowledge all of the time they put in. The tuition is $95 a month, two costumes were $220 plus you had to sell all 15 tickets for the recital or pay the remainder, and the tickets were $15 and $20.
