Madison Dance Academy offers a comprehensive range of dance instruction for students of various ages and skill levels, from toddlers to adults. Their curriculum spans multiple genres, catering to both recreational dancers and those interested in competitive pathways. Here are some of the services and class types you can expect to find:
- Classes for All Ages: Instruction is available for students as young as 2 years old, with specialized "Pre-Ballet" and "Tiny Tots" classes, extending through all youth age groups (ages 4-5, 5-7, 8-10, middle school, high school) and even offering "Adult Tap" classes.
- Diverse Dance Styles: The academy provides a broad spectrum of dance genres, including foundational styles like Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. More contemporary and expressive forms such as Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Contemporary dance are also offered.
- Specialized Classes: Beyond core styles, they also have classes like Musical Theater, which combines dance with theatrical elements, and Pointe for advanced ballet students with sufficient experience. "Technique & Conditioning" classes aim to improve overall dance ability and physical readiness.
- Recreational and Competitive Pathways: Madison Dance Academy offers both recreational classes for those pursuing dance as a hobby and competitive dance team programs for more dedicated students seeking performance and competition opportunities.
- Structured Sessions: Classes are typically structured into sessions (e.g., Fall/Winter, Spring) with options for monthly tuition payments.
- Performance Opportunities: Students enrolled in full-year programs generally have the opportunity to participate in an annual Student Concert/Spring Concert, allowing them to showcase their skills and progress.
- Private Lessons: While not extensively detailed, dance academies often offer private lessons for individualized instruction, which could be an option for students seeking focused attention or specific skill development.
Madison Dance Academy offers several features that shape the student experience, though some recent customer feedback indicates areas where the "family-friendly" feeling might have shifted under new management. Based on available information, here are some key aspects:
- Spacious Facility: The academy boasts a "gorgeous 4200 sq ft location" designed to accommodate students and families, providing ample space for classes and potentially maintaining social distancing protocols. This large facility, with multiple studios (e.g., Studio 1, Studio 2, as seen in class schedules), allows for a diverse class offering simultaneously.
- Variety of Dance Genres: A significant highlight is the wide array of dance styles available, ensuring that students can explore different forms like ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary. This breadth of offerings caters to varied interests and developmental stages.
- Commitment to Individual Needs: The academy states a passion "to provide an opening environment to learn the art of dance while creating lifelong friendships and life values" and is "committed to each dancer," promoting "teamwork, confidence and self-discipline."
- Teacher Dedication (Varies): While some teachers, like "Miss Becca," are highly praised for being "amazing" and "incredibly knowledgeable and passionate," feedback suggests that the overall consistency in teaching quality and customer service might vary across the staff, especially following the change in ownership.
- Structured Curriculum: Classes are designed with specific age groups and skill levels in mind, with clear progression paths for students from beginners to advanced dancers, including options for pointe work and competitive teams.
- Mandatory Fees and Policies: As with many dance studios, there are standard fees beyond tuition, such as a registration fee, student concert production fee (which includes videos and photos of the concert), and costume fees. It's noted that tuition and fees are generally non-refundable once the school year begins.
- Online Parent Portal & Auto-Pay: The studio encourages payments through a parent portal and offers an auto-pay program, which can simplify the billing process for families and potentially waive convenience fees.
- Dress Code & Etiquette: Like most dance academies, Madison Dance Academy has specific dress codes for each class type (e.g., leotard and tights for ballet, clean tennis shoes for hip hop) and classroom etiquette guidelines.

Madison Dance Academy Reviews
The company is under new management. While the facility has been enhanced the only teacher I would recommend is Miss Becca. She was amazing the first year we had her however her class availability is limited. We tried another teacher and we weren't able to see our child's progress as they kept the viewing curtains closed the entire session except for one. One time we were invited in the room only to be scolded by the teacher to bathroom our children before class and to make sure our child's ballet laces were tucked in.
Dec 07, 2017 · Jen UhlmanMy family decided to switch to Madison Dance Academy 2 years ago because we heard it was family-friendly, that the teachers were commited, our friends enjoyed going there, and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, after we paid upfront for the upcoming year, the studio was sold without notice and the rates increased substantially. The new owners Emily and Marcus didn't honor the rate we had already paid and we, along with many others, were told we could either disenroll in classes or pay the increased rate. At that point, we decided to try the studio out anyway since our girls wanted to take lessons with their friends who went there. While a couple of our teachers were nice and dedicated, the overall tone is money-motivated and Emily lacks decency when it comes to customer service. From what I have heard, the family-friendly feeling has really dissipated from what it was under previous ownership. This spring when I realized there was a mandatory practice for the closing rehearsal dance scheduled on Mother's Day and I messaged her a friendly email recommending not scheduling future practices on Mother's Day, I received back a very direct, bulleted email stating that the finale dance was voluntary and my daughter didn't need to participate. A kind, "I'm sorry the practice is on Mother's Day, but it was the only option available," could have gone a long way.... Again, customer service lacking.:( Our daughters will be attending a different dance studio this year, but hopefully Madison Dance Academy takes a turn for the better.
