So sad to see such a beloved institution suffer due to one person’s corruption and poor leadership. The entire company and school staff have quit due to the executive director’s toxic and inappropriate behavior. She has somehow named herself the board chair, executive director, and CEO and therefore dismantled the system that should be holding her accountable for her actions. She has continued to promote an upcoming season and post on social media (even blocking and deleting comments with any acknowledgement of the situation) like nothing has happened and refuses to acknowledge the damage that has been done. I hope the broader community can find a way to hold her accountable (by way of her resignation) and rebuild the ballet that has been loved by so many for long. - Avelyn Heltzel

For decades, the Lexington Ballet Company has been an integral part of the artistic landscape in Central Kentucky, offering classical ballet training and performances that have enriched the lives of many within the community. Established with a mission to inspire and educate, it has historically served as a significant institution for aspiring dancers and ballet enthusiasts across the region.

The Lexington Ballet Company, founded as Jorgensen Ballet in 1974 and granted 501(c)(3) status in 1975, has a rich history of contributing to the arts in Kentucky. It has aimed to provide the highest level of classical ballet training and performance opportunities, cultivating a culture of self-discipline, creativity, and respect. Through its school and company, it has sought to make ballet accessible and appreciated, offering educational programs and performances that introduce thousands of students to the art form each year.

However, it is important for prospective students and families in Kentucky to be aware of recent challenges the organization has faced.
