It has been very sad to see LHDC go down hill this year. Most of my complaints go straight to the owner. My child & I have witnessed very cruel behavior, racism, gender inequity & classicism by Connie. She expected payment for classes run by a high school student that was present 50% of the time, made up last minute policies & absolutely does not support our LGBTQ community. I was a student of Connie's and I absolutely think she needs to retire. - Emily Kita

Lake Harriet Dance Center Introduce

For families in the vibrant South Minneapolis community and beyond, Lake Harriet Dance Center (LHDC) has long been a local fixture in the world of dance education. This studio aims to provide a space where individuals of all ages, from spirited preschoolers to dedicated adults, can explore the joy and artistry of dance. LHDC distinguishes itself by fostering a non-competitive environment, allowing students to focus on personal growth, skill development, and a genuine love for movement rather than the pressures of competition. This approach is particularly appealing to parents who wish for their children to experience dance as an expressive art form, building confidence and creativity in a supportive setting.

However, it's important for prospective students and families to be aware of the range of experiences shared by past customers. While some reviews highlight the studio's professionalism, the positive impact of young assistant dancers modeling moves for kids, and the engaging use of props like flags and flowers, other feedback has raised serious concerns. Specifically, there have been direct complaints regarding alleged cruel behavior, racism, gender inequity, and classicism attributed to the owner, Connie. These reviews also mention last-minute policy changes, issues with payment for classes not consistently taught by an adult, and a perceived lack of support for the LGBTQ community. These varying perspectives underscore the importance of personal inquiry and consideration when choosing a dance studio that aligns with one's values and expectations for a respectful and inclusive learning environment.
