Galveston Ballet Reviews
Danced for Galveston Ballet in high school (2011) and loved it. I just recently enrolled my daughter into Ballet 1 and was so happy to be back at the studio I joined the Adult Ballet class they offer! Both Janel and Judith have always done such a wonderful job as teachers. I know many other people who both dance for the company or who now have children dancing. Couldn't recommend a better place to learn ballet. They are always professional and so knowledgeable of the art.
Jan 28, 2025 · Katherine PompaI attended the performance at The Grand last night with the family of one of the dancers. While the dancers were generally impressive, I was deeply disturbed by the appearance of the black adult male dancer whose costume left little to the imagination. You could literally see every part of his male genitalia imprinting in his way-too-tight pants, which was highly inappropriate. This was especially troubling considering the presence of young children both on stage and in the audience, who should not be exposed to such explicit displays. The Galveston Ballet needs to take immediate action to address this issue. They should ensure that their costumes and performances are appropriate for all audience members, including families with children. It is their responsibility to provide a wholesome and family-friendly environment, free from any inappropriate content. In an art form as respected and revered as ballet, it is crucial to maintain high standards of decency and professionalism. Allowing such a display on stage not only undermines the integrity of the performance but also alienates audience members who expect a certain level of decorum. I hope the Galveston Ballet will reflect on this incident and make the necessary changes to prevent any recurrence in the future.Overall, while the talent of the dancers was commendable, the inappropriate costume choice of one performer cast a shadow over an otherwise enjoyable evening. I urge the Galveston Ballet to take this feedback seriously and to ensure that their performances remain respectful and suitable for all ages.
Jun 08, 2024 · Galveston CustomerI'm first writing this review to post a response to a very ignorant 1 star review just posted about costume choices. To you Galveston Customer, I'll choose arguably the most recognized name in family friendly ballet performances, The Nutcracker, and ask you to Youtube the Bolshoi, or NY, or the Royal Ballet in London or any other large production you find and tell me how tight the pants are on those men dancing, lol...this is not uncommon and doesn't warrant such a damaging review. Educate yourself before posting such ignorant reviews Have you even seen another ballet with men in them? Tight pants, usually white tights, are more common than not.Secondly, we/I am biased. We have children attending... young ones. This is a good outlet for them. They get to live out their dreams of being ballerinas while dancing in front of hundreds on the big stage. I wouldn't compare our house to the Bolshoi or others, but it's what we have and such a valuable resource for the arts in our community and our children's lives. Of course, there is room for improvement, there always is, but we do what we can with what we have.Keep doing what you are doing Galveston Ballet.
Jun 10, 2024 · Richard BGalveston Ballet provides classical ballet training for all ages and all levels. Each year they perform a full performance at the Galveston Grand Opera House with two showings over Memorial Day Weekend. These performances are a real treat and an island gem. Beautiful ballet in an historical and lovely venue at bargain prices. I highly recommend both the school and the performances to locals and visitors. It is a great experience.
