Dance Starz Academy of NJ Reviews
My girls have been going here for 4 years and have enjoyed every minute. The teachers genuinely care about the students and are so welcoming to all.
Jan 30, 2025 · Lanette SantiagoMy daughter danced here for almost 8 years. At the end of her first year she was invited to be on their competition team. In the beginning it was great. Very family like atmosphere. Then they moved, to a bigger studio. We were so excited. But with the move came growth that the studio was not prepared for. The students almost tripled and the studio did not hire more teachers. Which meant more stressed out teachers and less attention per child. Chores were given out to the students to clean the studio. I was not happy that I was paying for my child to learn dance, but the last portion of class time was to be spent cleaning. I said nothing and gave it time. Almost 4 years have passed and still no new teachers to accommodate their growth. The studio owners daughters danced with my daughter. One of them all of a sudden had an issue with my daughter, most likely because she heard her mom talking poorly of me. (Most likely because I was the only parent willing to point out when they were breaking their contract) Her daughter started becoming disrespectful towards me and when I pointed this out to Amy, the studio owner, she kicked my daughter off the team. To take her issue out with me on my 10 year old, her dancer of 8 years, absolutely disgusts me and really showed me the type of woman Amy really is. I waited to post this until we found a new studio for comparison. We have, and my 10 year olds first comment about the difference from one studio to the next is how clean the new studio is. I can go into so many more issues DSA needs to address, but what’s the point? We have realized very quickly being kicked off this team was a good thing for us. I will gladly spend my money somewhere else. I was getting very frustrated with some of the changes and the constant change of schedules was becoming problematic. We were to sign a contract every year, and every year the studio did not uphold their side of the contract. When this was pointed out, instead of addressing the concerns, the next year the contract changed. For example, the contract used to state that teachers would be running dances at competitions, I pointed out one year that there was no teacher with the students as they were making fools of themselves trying to rehearse before going on stage, the next year in the contract, it was now an older students job to run dances with the little ones. I have years of incidents like that but google doesn’t give me enough characters to tell it all. Good luck to anyone joining this studio, they do have some fantastic teachers and awesome choreographers. Could be a great place if ran correctly.
Jul 28, 2024 · Victoria SemmensBest dance school in Rahway. They are supportive and encouraging to all their students. My daughter has only been three for three seasons but I’ve since so much growth in her. Ms. Landa and Ms. Amy are the best.
Sep 15, 2023 · Laura BellevueMe daughter who just turned 4 a few weeks ago was taking ballet lessons here. The class is 90 minutes long, so it's difficult for her to focus the entire time. Yesterday when I picked her up, she was waiting patiently in line for a sticker after class when the instructor told her she didn't behave well enough for a sticker, maybe next time, as she handed every other child a sticker. Then, the instructor proceeded to hand out munchkins to all the kids in her class, even some younger siblings, and only excluded my daughter. I called and spoke with the woman at the front desk, who just defended the instructor. When I asked why no one spoke with me if my daughters behavior was a problem, she said they usually speak with a parent after multiple incidents, and this was just the first time. Apparently, this punishment was because my daughter was moving in the opposite direction she was directed to, which shows how developmentally inappropriate a 90 minute class is for a 4 year old, and the lack of training the instructor must have had.I would call this bullying, and will not be sending my daughter back. I am appalled she was treated this way and I will be more careful about whose care I leave her in when selecting another dance studio to try.
Oct 03, 2022 · Wendy JacobDance Starz Acedemy of NJ is the best dance studio we have had the pleasure of attending from rec classes to competitive team. Whether you are looking for a fun activity for your child or something more competitive, this is the place to go. The teachers are top notch and the studio owner is up front and teaching as well. Great dance studio, perfect fit as our "second home/family" 💜.
