Cecchetti Council of Amer Inc Introduce
For discerning dancers, dedicated teachers, and passionate ballet enthusiasts across Michigan and throughout the United States, the Cecchetti Council of America Inc. represents a pillar of classical ballet excellence. Rooted in the esteemed Cecchetti Method, an internationally recognized system of ballet training established by Cavalier Enrico Cecchetti, this organization is committed to upholding the highest standards of the art form. Unlike a local dance studio that offers classes directly, the Cecchetti Council of America (CCA) is a non-profit educational association focused on providing a structured, progressive system for ballet instruction, offering accredited examinations, and fostering the continuous professional development of its member teachers. For Michiganders interested in a rigorous, anatomically sound, and globally recognized approach to ballet, understanding the role and offerings of the CCA is essential. This article will delve into the core mission of the Cecchetti Council of America, its location, the invaluable services it provides, its defining features, and why its presence is so beneficial for the local dance community in Michigan.
While the Cecchetti Council of America Inc. has a national and international reach, its official administrative office is conveniently located at 23393 Meadows Ave, Flat Rock, MI 48134, USA. This placement in Flat Rock, a community in Wayne County, Michigan, provides a tangible home for an organization that impacts ballet education across the United States. For Michigan residents, having the headquarters of such a prestigious ballet authority within the state signifies a direct connection to the standards and resources it offers. While students and teachers typically engage with the Cecchetti Method through local studios that are members of the CCA, the Flat Rock address serves as the central hub for administrative functions, national board oversight, and the coordination of examinations and educational initiatives. Its accessibility via major roadways within Southeast Michigan means that regional events, meetings, or inquiries can be conveniently facilitated for those in the local area, reinforcing Michigan's role as a key center for classical ballet development in the country.
The Cecchetti Council of America Inc. offers a specialized set of services designed to uphold and disseminate the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet. These services are primarily directed at both student candidates and member teachers, ensuring a consistent and high-quality standard of ballet education:
- Accredited Examinations for Students: The CCA provides a rigorous system of sequential graded examinations (from Primary levels up through professional grades like Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced, and Diploma). These exams assess a student's proficiency in the Cecchetti Method, promoting technical and artistic development, poise, balance, and strength.
- Teacher Certification and Examinations: The Council offers a comprehensive certification pathway for ballet teachers. Through a series of examinations (e.g., Associate, Licentiate, Fellow), teachers demonstrate their mastery of the Cecchetti syllabus, anatomical knowledge, musicality, and pedagogical skills, ensuring they are qualified to teach the method.
- Continuing Education for Member Teachers: The CCA is dedicated to raising the standard of ballet teaching. It provides numerous professional development opportunities, including:
- National Seminars
- Regional Seminars and Refresher Courses (e.g., "Ballet Days")
- Annual Summer International Teachers' Course
- Updates on syllabus changes, grade level expectations, and exam procedures.
- Guidance on psychological nurturing for children in dance.
- Student Workshops and Intensive Programs: The CCA organizes and supports workshops and summer programs (like the Cecchetti Camp at Hope College, as mentioned in reviews) to increase students' exposure to various teaching styles, professional ballet faculty, and other dance forms, offering both syllabus and non-syllabus classes.
- Educational and Reference Materials: Providing member teachers with high-quality educational resources, publications, and syllabus books to ensure consistent and accurate instruction of the Cecchetti Method.
- Scholarships and Pre-Professional Opportunities: Promoting and assisting professionally-bound students in reaching their goals through scholarships and opportunities such as the CICB (Cecchetti International Classical Ballet) International Ballet Competition.
- Mentorship Program: A core aspect of the CCA is its mentorship system, which guides member teachers in their professional growth and adherence to the Cecchetti principles.
- Maintaining Global Connections: The CCA actively participates with other Cecchetti Societies worldwide (e.g., Australia, Canada, Southern Africa, Italy) through membership in the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Organization, ensuring universal standards.
The Cecchetti Council of America Inc. is distinguished by several key features and highlights that underscore its significant impact on classical ballet education, particularly for those in Michigan:
- Adherence to a World-Renowned Method: The core strength of the CCA lies in its unwavering dedication to the Cecchetti Method, a rigorously structured system developed by Maestro Enrico Cecchetti. This method is known for its logical progression, anatomical soundness, and ability to produce highly technical and artistic dancers with exceptional balance, poise, strength, and elasticity.
- Standardized and Progressive Syllabus: The method employs a carefully graded sequence of exercises and steps, ensuring a logical progression that aligns with a dancer's physical and artistic development. This standardized syllabus provides a clear pathway for student and teacher growth, which is consistently applied across member studios.
- Focus on Quality Over Quantity: A fundamental principle of the Cecchetti Method, perpetuated by the CCA, is that it is more important to execute an exercise correctly once than to do it a dozen times carelessly. This emphasis on precision and artistry leads to a deeper understanding and mastery of ballet.
- Accredited Examination System: The system of accredited examinations for both students and teachers is a hallmark. These exams provide tangible goals, motivate students, and offer valuable feedback for both dancers and instructors, ensuring high standards are met and maintained. The positive experiences reported by reviewers regarding these exams highlight their value.
- Strong Teacher Mentorship and Professional Development: The CCA is uniquely focused on mentoring its member teachers, providing continuous education, refresher courses, and guidance. This commitment ensures that instructors are well-versed in the latest pedagogical approaches, anatomy, music, and the nuances of the Cecchetti syllabus, directly benefiting students.
- Holistic Development of Dancers: Beyond technical proficiency, the Cecchetti Method (and by extension, the CCA's approach) aims to develop well-rounded dancers who understand musicality, artistry, and the historical context of ballet. Reviewers note how instructors have their daughters' "best interests at heart," preparing them "physically and mentally."
- Nationwide and International Recognition: As a member of Cecchetti International Classical Ballet, the CCA ensures its standards are recognized globally, providing students with qualifications that are respected worldwide.
- Michigan Roots: Having the central administrative office in Flat Rock, MI, reinforces the strong presence and influence of the Cecchetti Method within the state, making it a local point of pride and accessible resource for Michigan's dance community.

Cecchetti Council of Amer Inc Reviews
I have had nothing but great experiences with this organization. We had attended many Cecchetti Ballet Day at Oakland University, Wayne State and the West side of the state, attended 3 years of Cecchetti Camp up at Hope College, plus many years of instruction from instructors from various studios that are members of Cecchetti Council of America. The Instructors that my daughters have had the pleasure learning from have always had their best interests at heart. Preparing them physically and mentally for the exams as each exam proved to be a positive and rewarding experience.
