This article aims to provide local users in Colorado with a comprehensive understanding of what makes BBS - Black Belt Salsa a standout destination for learning, dancing, and connecting with people.
BBS - Black Belt Salsa is not your typical night club; it's a meticulously structured learning environment built around a progressive "Black Belt" system, akin to martial arts. This unique pedagogical approach allows students to learn salsa step-by-step, mastering each movement before advancing to the next "belt" level. This systematic method, developed by world-renowned instructor Edie "The Salsa Freak" Williams, ensures thorough understanding and confidence on the dance floor, making complex moves accessible to everyone from absolute beginners to advanced dancers.
Beyond the structured classes, BBS - Black Belt Salsa transforms into a lively social event. Every Tuesday night, after classes conclude, the space opens up for a social dance party, complete with complimentary wine, beer, chocolates, and fresh fruit. This creates an inviting atmosphere where students can practice their newly acquired skills, meet new people, and simply enjoy the magic of salsa. The inclusive nature of the community is often highlighted by patrons, with singles being as welcome as couples, fostering a friendly and engaging environment for all. Regular themed events, like "Dress to Impress" parties, Masquerades, and holiday celebrations, add an extra layer of fun and social engagement, making each visit a unique experience.

I like the concept. I like to go with my family, but singles are more than welcome, and there are plenty of them if you are trying to meet new people.Classes start at 7.30 pm. After class there a social event for all levels.
Apr 30, 2025 · Juan CarlosI discovered BBS for myself about 10 months ago. And Tuesday is my favorite day of the week ever since! Black Belt system consists of step by step instructions and different levels (belts). Once you completed all the classes in one level, you can test out and transfer to the next one. This way you perfect every move. Last Tuesday of every month there is a Dress to Impress party, and about once a month or so, there is an event, like Masquerade, Halloween, "wear all white" Christmas, Valentine's day, St. Patrick's Day etc., when everyone can have some extra FUN! After the class there is always dinner consisting of various dishes including fresh fruit and veggies, and social dancing so everyone can practice the moves they learned. Occasionally Edie does workshops on Sundays, ex.g. Ladies Styling, Spinning workshop, bootcamp for beginners etc. All great workshops to attend. Quite often Edie also invites dancers, performers, other instructors from other schools, musicians to teach her students about different aspects of dance as an art. BBS is also a fabulous SOCIAL event, that makes you forget about your work, stimulates your brain, burns calories, helps you meet lots of amazing people not only from Denver, but from all over the world!
May 18, 2017 · Lena SThis is a good beginners place for anyone who’s trying to dance on two. But keep in mind that mostly people in Colorado dance on one so it’ll be very hard for you to dance with somebody after you take this course unless they took it. I came to this course a few years ago and was able to get through most of the levels. I ended up leaving because I wanted to be challenged. And all the instructors kept changing.I came back after a couple years and it’s the same thing. The main instructor is really trying to get the women to flirt with the men while you’re dancing. I’m up for learning new styling moves, but I’m not here to seduce or make myself feel uncomfortable while Dancing with men also I’m not here to flirt with men. I’m here to learn how to dance. And the thing that gets me as years ago, the instructor required each apprentice to work so many hours before they can instruct. Now these people are just paying to be an apprentice and getting thrown into Teaching a class when they are really, not even at the instructor level. It’s unfair to beginners because they’re being taught the wrong way. Yes, it makes more sense If you come to this class every week, to just pay and be an apprentice . But we’re not being taught the right way. It’s a fun environment. It’s a great community but once again I don’t want to learn from apprentice instructors who have no formal training or who have no real hours teaching or competing and cannot move their bodies. Yes, the free beer and the free drinks are to draw you in. But there are no real fundamentals being taught here. They just skip you from level to level. Yes, they do require you to take a test and move to the next level. But I haven’t seen anybody not being passed to any of the next levels.
Nov 05, 2024 · C OEdie is AMAZING!!!! My boyfriend and I went into the lesson knowing NOTHING about salsa. Edie provided a wonderful and open environment where we were comfortable and ready to learn. She was patient and kind and we feel great about our salsa skills now! She set up the cutest table with wine and cheese and fruit. It was AWESOME. We can’t wait to continue our private lessons so hopefully we can end up pros at the club!!!! ❤️HIGHLY RECOMMEND
May 06, 2024 · Amanda GarciaCome to this weekly class and social! I started off taking private salsa dance lessons with Edie about 15 years ago and her techniques and instruction created a solid foundation that I still use today! You need to take her dance lessons if you're serious about learning Latin dance. After years of performing and competing, I ended up hurting my shoulder due to leaders yanking and pulling on me, but EVERY lead who dedicates themselves to learning from BlackBeltSalsa has great technique, is firm but gentle, and I know **I will never get hurt dancing with Edie's students**. She's fun and dynamic and you won't regret investing that $20 each week.
