The Ballet Conservatory of Asheville offers a comprehensive range of dance disciplines, with a strong emphasis on classical ballet, catering to both recreational dancers and those aspiring to professional careers.
- Classical Ballet and Pointe Work: This is the core of BCA's curriculum. They offer classes in Creative Ballet for young children (ages 3-4 and 5-6) to introduce basic terminology, coordination, and musicality. For older students (ages 7 and up), Ballet Levels I through III focus on barre exercises for strengthening, stretching, and proper alignment. Students aged 11 and up may begin Pointe work with faculty permission and supervision as part of their classical study, rooted in the Russian Vaganova training method which emphasizes strong technical ability and musicality.
- Modern Dance: Drawing from the rich history of modern dance pioneers, BCA offers training in various modern dance techniques at beginning, advanced, and adult levels, incorporating diverse perspectives on movement and kinesiology.
- Contemporary Dance: A fusion of various styles, contemporary dance focuses on fluid movement, emotional expression, and innovative choreography.
- Jazz and Broadway Dance: These classes explore a broad range of jazz styles, including those rooted in African American vernacular dance and Broadway musical theater. They promote focus, conditioning, alignment, strength, and cardiovascular health.
- Tap Dance: BCA teaches tap dance, focusing on using tap shoes as percussion. They incorporate knowledge of ballet and jazz techniques, musicality, and technical precision from both rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap traditions.
- Pilates and Conditioning: Recognizing the importance of physical fitness for dancers, the conservatory incorporates Pilates, a system focusing on concentration, control, centering, core strength, and precision, as a staple of dancer training.
- Pre-Professional Program: This elite division is designed for serious students committed to pursuing dance at a higher level, providing rigorous technical training and performance opportunities.
- Recreational Dance Program: For students who love to dance but prefer a less intense commitment, the recreational program offers high-quality instruction in various disciplines.
- Master Classes and Workshops: BCA regularly hosts master classes with renowned guest faculty, dancers, choreographers, and companies (such as NYC Ballet's Daniel Ulbricht and Broadway's Nick Kepley), providing students with invaluable exposure to top professionals.
- Performance Opportunities: Students have multiple opportunities to perform, including an annual year-end concert, auditions for their popular production of The Nutcracker (for students age 5 and up), and participation in a full-length Spring ballet. They are a resident company at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts.
- Summer Intensives: Each summer, BCA hosts open classes, children's workshops, and a month-long ballet Summer Intensive for talented students from across the country, providing immersive training.
The Ballet Conservatory of Asheville is distinguished by several key features and highlights that firmly establish its reputation as a leading dance institution in North Carolina.

This environment builds students' "self-esteem, confidence, and love for dance," fostering personal growth alongside artistic development.
- Reasonable Rates: For families, the "reasonable rates" are a notable benefit, making high-quality ballet instruction more accessible and certainly helped one family in their transition from a previous dance school.
- Comprehensive Curriculum: Beyond classical ballet and pointe, BCA offers a well-rounded curriculum including Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Broadway Dance, Tap, and essential Conditioning and Pilates, providing a diverse dance education.
- Exceptional Performance Opportunities: The conservatory regularly presents full-length ballets such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty, enchanting audiences at venues like the Diana Wortham Theatre. These productions offer invaluable stage experience for students.
- Renowned Guest Faculty and Master Classes: BCA enriches its training with master classes featuring esteemed figures in the dance world, such as Daniel Ulbricht of NYC Ballet and Broadway's John Selya. This exposure to diverse talent broadens students' perspectives and enhances their training.
- Long-Term Student Growth: The focus on technique and individual growth ensures that students "grow as a dancer" and learn "so much" from the instructors, creating a lasting impact on their skills and passion.

Ballet Conservatory of Asheville Reviews
This studio has been a great experience for my son. He has learned so much from the wonderful instructors and has grown as a dancer. In our opinion, best dance studio in town for classical ballet!!
Aug 27, 2021 · Gilbert MataThe Ballet Conservatory of Asheville is a wonderful dance school! I brought my daughter to this dance school from a "competition geared" dance school. It was very refreshing to enroll her in a school that teaches technique rather than routines for competition. The Pre-Professional program is very impressive, and the whole staff is very professional and extremely knowledged in the art of dance and how to teach--and the background that each person has in dance enhances the experience. The Ballet Conservatory has reasonable rates, and that certainly helped in the transition from the previous dance school. We are very pleased with this dance school and with the instructors, the Ballet Conservatory of Asheville is highly recommended!
