The Ballet Center of Houston offers a structured and progressive curriculum designed to cater to dancers at every stage of their development, from their very first steps to advanced training. Their services are thoughtfully categorized by age and skill level, ensuring appropriate and challenging instruction for all.
- Pre-Ballet Levels (Ages 2-5/6): These introductory classes, often titled "Pre-Ballet" or "Level K Ballet," focus on creative movement, basic ballet positions, motor skill development, and musicality. They provide a fun and engaging entry point for the youngest dancers.
- Beginning Ballet (Ages 6-8, and older beginners): For students new to ballet, or those with minimal experience, these classes build fundamental knowledge of ballet vocabulary, barre work basics, and simple center floor exercises.
- Progressive Ballet Levels (Levels 1-5 and beyond): As students advance, classes become more structured and demanding. Level 1 introduces one-hand barre work, while higher levels (e.g., Level 3 for 8+ years, Level 4 for 9+ years, Level 5 for 10+ years) focus on developing broader ballet vocabulary, refining movement with attention to technique, execution, and artistry. Multiple classes per week are often required at these levels.
- Pointe Work: Beginning at Level 5 (typically for students 10 years and older), pointe work is introduced, focusing on proper technique and strengthening exercises necessary for dancing en pointe. This usually requires attendance in multiple ballet technique classes per week in addition to pointe class.
- Open Curriculum for Teens & Adults: Recognizing that a love for ballet can develop at any age, the center offers classes specifically designed for older students and adults, accommodating various experience levels from beginner to advanced.
- Recital Classes: Many of the progressive level classes are designated as "recital classes," indicating that they prepare students for performance opportunities, culminating in showcases or annual recitals.
- Private Lessons: For students seeking individualized attention or accelerated progress, private lessons are often available, allowing for highly personalized instruction.

Ballet Center of Houston Reviews
Mrs. Kristy is amazing with my daughter! She is very good at getting the kids to participate and become invested into learning how to dance. She has accomplished so much with her. My daughter has issues with staying on task but can’t take her eyes off Mrs. Kristy while dancing and learning her routine. Well done Mrs. Kristy!!!!
Jan 09, 2025 · Robert BenefielThe director is one of the sweetest ladies ever. She really wants kids to be able to dance, and she provides a safe environment for them.
Apr 25, 2025 · Cara WoodhamMy daughter went here for 3 years and it was nothing short of amazing. So professional. Ms. Judy at the front is always so friendly and accommodating. Ms Christy is exactly what you’d imagine a ballerina being in real life. She’s so sweet and has a Mary poppins rhythm to her. The kids absolutely adore her.The Christmas program the dance company put on in December is seriously one of the best I’ve seen, they perform like a professional company. My favorite of course was the spring recital where my daughter would be performing. All the classes did so well, I was even moved to tears by a few of the older kids. At the end they celebrated the graduating seniors and it was really wonderful.Sign your kids up, they are in good hands here learning proper skills and techniques.
Jan 20, 2023 · Shy OlajideMy daughter started taking pre-ballet level classes over the summer. She enjoyed them so much we signed up for the 2016/17 school year. We're half-way through the year and she still loves going. The studio is very easy to work with and we haven't had any issues with staff members or other parents. It's just a nice place to take your child to dance.
