Vitacca Ballet & School For Dance, The Woodlands Reviews
Edited to reflect a more appropriate one-star review. Two stars only because the curriculum is good. Otherwise, one star. And honestly, zero stars for the pretentious owner. Our time at Vitacca Ballet was marked by disorganization, poor communication, and a disregard for both families and student safety. Parents are taken advantage of—expected to pay premium tuition and additional fees with little to no transparency or accountability. Communication is routinely last-minute or unclear, making it incredibly difficult for families to plan or feel confident in what’s happening. What’s most alarming is the lack of basic safety standards. During Nutcracker rehearsals, teenage boys who were not part of the production were allowed unsupervised access to the cast dressing rooms before being discovered and chased away by parents and a teacher. This kind of negligence is inexcusable and was never properly addressed. Additionally, drop-off instructions for unfamiliar urban venues were vague at best—no signage, no staff presence, locked doors, and no clear protocol. Expecting young dancers to navigate this alone is irresponsible. We also experienced repeated administrative failures. On multiple occasions, we arrived for scheduled classes only to find no teacher present. No communication had been sent, and even the ballet mistress had no answers. We also showed up for auditions more than once only to be told we weren’t registered—despite having paid and completed the registration process. I had to dig through my own records to prove we belonged there. One of the most frustrating incidents involved a class that was scheduled to be combined with auditions. We were told in advance that my daughter’s regular class would be merged with the audition group—but when more dancers showed up than expected, the regular class was canceled without notice. My daughter followed instructions, showed up on time, and was still blamed for being in the “wrong place.” Instead of taking accountability, the staff accused her of lying and attempted to gaslight her.Vitacca Ballet presents itself as a prestigious training ground, but the reality behind the scenes is a disorganized and, at times, toxic environment. We made the decision to leave, and I strongly caution others before committing to this studio.Edited to add: Vitacca claims classes are open to parent observation but recently placed signs on the doors indicating that parents should drop their children and leave.
May 02, 2025 · Steffani KonzemMy daughter attended Ballet Primary 1 for a year at Vitacca in The Woodlands and had the same teacher throughout. At the start of each Spring term, parents are asked if their child would like to participate in the optional performance. If they choose to join, there’s a mandatory commitment to weekly rehearsals on Saturdays, starting after Spring break. The rehearsals are brief, usually less than an hour, but they are required, and you won’t know the exact time until just before the dates. This essentially means blocking off Saturdays from 1-5 pm, as missing rehearsals can lead to exclusion from the performance.Additionally, the weekly technique classes are used to practice for the performance, so students who opt out are considered "second cast" (Vitacca's description). In our case, we weren’t able to commit to blocking off 1-5 pm for unknown Saturday rehearsal times, so we chose not to participate in the performance. Unfortunately, opting out of the performance class had a significant knock-on impact on the quality of my daughter's weekly class experience. The teacher closed the blinds, so I couldn't see what was happening during class, though I knew there were performance practices. All I could see were 16 girls coming in and out of class, and my daughter lost interest in ballet. She complained that she felt ignored—often standing behind the other girls and simply copying them—while the teacher focused on the students participating in the performance.I (and other parents) also witnessed a girl leaving class in tears, feeling left out when the performance students tried on their costumes. We stayed for the year mainly because the location was so convenient, but when I realized we'd face the same situation in the Spring, I decided to pull my daughter out. By then, we had already paid for the month, and other dance schools were already closed for enrollment. Thankfully, we were able to find a spot at a different school, and after just a couple of lessons, my daughter has shown renewed enthusiasm for ballet.Looking back, I regret not pulling her out sooner from Vitacca. I wanted to share my experience so that other parents are fully aware of the commitment required for the performance class and in our case, opting out of the performance meant a significantly diminished weekly class experience for my daughter.
