★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My daughter has been at the Premier Ballet School of Orange County for three years and we could not be happier. She has been dancing since she was three years old and had been to five different studios before we settled on PBSOC. Why has it been a good fit?Teaching - The ballet teachers have been trained in the Vaganova Method of ballet and are excellent teachers. It took a little while for my daughter to get used to this style of ballet (she had mostly been dancing Balanchine style ballet until then) but, after a few short private lessons with Ms. Naz, she was up to speed. I’ve not actually sat in on a class but, from what I’ve observed, and from what my daughter has told me, the teachers are nice and kind but the teachers are serious when it comes to teaching their craft and thus do not allow nonsense from the students during class (e.g. disrespect towards teachers or classmates, not paying attention to instruction because of talking / being on phone etc.). This is especially with the older students as they are held to a higher standard. That said, the students and teachers have a lot of fun in class and there is always laughter. Besides ballet, there is also an excellent contemporary dance program led by Ms. Gunta, Ms. Brandi teaches jazz classes, and Ms. Suzie teaches the little ones. My daughter has improved tremendously as a dancer.Culture - The teachers and staff foster a sense of family within the studio. The students like each other and support each other in class, at performances, at competitions, and outside the studio. For the most part, other parents support not just their own children but I feel we look out for each other’s kids as well. Halloween and Holiday parties and Spring picnics have become traditions. Finally, the annual Nutcracker show features a “Dancing Dad” crew which I highly recommend joining. (Us dads not only support our kids during the show but the rehearsal and show barbecues are legendary.)Flexibility - Unlike many other dance studios, Premier does not lock you into a half or full year contract. Instead, classes are billed on a biweekly basis so you can take as many, or as few classes, as you want. There is also a one-month make up policy if you miss a class. Is Premier the perfect dance school? No. There are pros and cons at Premier just like at any other studio. Only you know what works best for you and your child but highly recommend that you put The Premier Ballet School of Orange County on your consideration list.

Dec 05, 2023 · Chiemi HayashiIt’s been a few months since we left and we couldn’t be happier. Being at a different place that’s healthier makes me realize that I need to write this and warn others. My daughter join Premier at Level 2. We took the level 2 classes, did a lot of privates, joined the team, and did the Nutcracker & Spring showcase. After a year, this is where things started to change. It’s like they have us and don’t need to be nice anymore. My daughter was late once for a rehearsal and Ms. Naz said to her in front of all the kids “you can’t waltz in here like you are the queen”. My daughter was apologetic for being late and Ms. Naz still shamed her in front of all the kids. My daughter cried. This was not the first time. But my daughter is not the only one crying. In class, Ms. Naz and Ms. Marina yell at kids that don’t get the moves right. Some of these girls don’t know ballet very well but Ms. Naz & Ms. Marina still yells at them until they are crying.I went to pick up my daughter from a Nutcracker practice and saw Ms. Marina angrily demanding why the girl was crying. Isn’t it obvious? Everyone saw this. Even the girl’s mom saw this but did nothing. Parents need to stop letting these teachers abuse their kids. The parents all try to be nice to Ms. Marina & Ms. Naz so they will teach their kids & give them good dance roles. The parents suck up to the teachers at the cost of their kids wellbeing. Also, all the kids in the class know which girls are the favorites and which girls the teachers don’t like. The girls with rounder body type are not liked and are sometimes body shamed. Ms. Naz and Ms. Marina make comments about those ugly girls “thick” legs. Girls they don’t like get yelled at or ignored in a corner. It is pretty sad when kids know which girls teachers don’t like. How unprofessional. But they don’t just yell at the kids. They are not afraid to yell at the parents too. Parents who are paying them. In Nutcracker season, Ms. Naz & Ms. Marina are stressed so everybody is stressed. When parents helping them for free make a mistake, they get talk down to by Ms. Naz or Ms. Suzie. For something that is supposed to be fun, it is very unpleasant and stressful.Parents who don’t volunteer 15+ hours are fined $250. They say it is a “donation” but they make you sign a contract that you have to pay if you don’t work 15 hours for them for free. I was forced to pay because I had another child to take care of and couldn’t “volunteer”.They also have a contract that says they will level your child by ability and NOT age. But I was told another girl got moved up because she was older. Didn’t they say it is based on ability and not age? They put girls in lead roles for Nutcracker because those girl’s parents invite a lot of people to the show. This is money for Premier. They send an email to everyone showing how many people each student is bringing to the show. Ms. Naz and Ms. Marina treat very well the girls bringing the most people and shame & are mean to the girls who have little or don’t have people going.Sometimes the teachers don’t teach. My daughter told me that Ms. Marina is on her phone a lot. Sometimes for most of the class. She closes the window shade when she is doing this so no one can see. She’s also it a very nice person. She only corrects kids she likes and ignore ones she doesn’t like.At the studio, the more you pay, the better roles you get. Several girls who are good have already left. We are glad to leave this studio.I wouldn’t trust the good reviews you see. The family of one good review left already. The other one is from a mom trying to kiss up to the teachers so they’ll treat her daughter better.————————————————————————In response to their comments…1. Please do not post children’s name. It is inappropriate.2. The best part about Premier are the kids. Most of them are nice. But the teachers are not. They don’t understand appropriate behavior.
