In a city renowned for its entertainment industry and vibrant arts scene, The Playground LA stands out by offering a unique blend of high-energy classes, expert instruction, and a supportive atmosphere. While the provided information might initially suggest a "sporting goods store," the customer reviews clearly indicate that The Playground LA is a premier dance studio focusing on classes and artistic expression rather than selling athletic equipment. This article will delve into what makes The Playground LA a vital part of the Los Angeles dance landscape, covering its prime location, the range of services it provides, its standout features, and why it's a perfect fit for locals seeking an engaging and enriching movement experience.
Understanding the true nature of The Playground LA is crucial for local users. It's not where you'd go to buy a basketball or a tennis racket. Instead, it's where you'd go to learn a new dance routine, perfect your technique, or simply enjoy the exhilarating experience of moving to music in a professional setting. The studio aims to be an accessible space for everyone who loves to dance, fostering creativity and physical well-being.
The Playground LA is conveniently located at 7375 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046, USA. This address places it squarely in one of Los Angeles' most fashionable and culturally rich neighborhoods. Melrose Avenue is famous for its eclectic mix of boutiques, eateries, and creative businesses, making The Playground LA easily discoverable and a natural fit within its energetic surroundings.
Accessibility to The Playground LA is excellent for residents across Los Angeles. For those driving, Melrose Avenue offers street parking, though it can be competitive, especially during peak hours. Nearby public parking structures are also an option. Public transportation is a viable and often preferred method for many Angelenos. The studio is well-served by Metro bus lines, with stops conveniently located along Melrose Avenue. These routes connect to major transit hubs, allowing easy access from various parts of the city, including Hollywood, West Hollywood, and the Fairfax District. Its proximity to major thoroughfares further enhances its accessibility, making it a convenient destination for anyone passionate about dance. The vibrant street life on Melrose also means that visiting the studio can be part of a larger outing, perhaps combined with dining or shopping in the area.
The Playground LA primarily offers a wide variety of dance classes, catering to different styles, skill levels, and preferences. While specific class schedules and styles can vary, based on customer reviews and general studio offerings in Los Angeles, the following services are typical:
- Dance Classes: A diverse range of styles including Hip Hop, Vogue, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, and more. These classes are often taught by professional choreographers and dancers.
- Beginner-Friendly Classes: Classes specifically designed for those new to dance or a particular style, ensuring a welcoming entry point.
- Intermediate and Advanced Workshops: Opportunities for more experienced dancers to refine their skills and learn complex choreography.
- Introductory Classes: Specialized sessions, like the "Intro to Vogue class" mentioned in a review, designed to introduce participants to a new style in a fun and accessible way.
- Professional Instruction: Classes led by highly skilled and often renowned instructors in the dance community.
- Video Footage Services: Providing high-quality video recordings of class choreography, allowing participants to review their performance and share their progress.
- Community Events: Occasional workshops, masterclasses, or open sessions that foster a sense of community among dancers.
- Studio Space Rental: While not explicitly stated, many dance studios offer their space for rehearsals, private lessons, or small events.
The Playground LA stands out due to several key features and highlights that contribute to its reputation and appeal among the dance community in Los Angeles.
Features / Highlights:
- High-Energy Environment: The studio is known for its vibrant and energetic atmosphere, creating an exciting space for dance and movement.
- Professional and Talented Instructors: As highlighted by the review mentioning "fantastic instructor Polina," the studio boasts a roster of highly competent and engaging teachers who are often professional dancers themselves.
- Quality Video Footage: A unique and highly appreciated feature is the provision of professional and clean video footage from classes, which is invaluable for dancers to track progress, share, and remember choreography.
- Diverse Class Offerings: The variety of dance styles ensures that there is something for everyone, whether you're interested in the latest hip-hop moves or the intricate art of vogue.
- Community Vibe: Despite being a professional studio, there's a strong sense of camaraderie and support, making it a great place to meet like-minded individuals who share a passion for dance.
- Central Los Angeles Location: Being on Melrose Avenue offers not just accessibility but also the prestige and energy of a major cultural thoroughfare.
- Focus on Learning and Fun: The classes are structured to provide effective learning while ensuring participants have an enjoyable and engaging experience, as evidenced by the positive feedback on the "Intro to Vogue class."
One crucial aspect highlighted by a review, however, is the concern regarding music volume. While the high-energy environment is a feature, some individuals have experienced music at "club-levels" that can be uncomfortably loud, leading to headaches, ringing ears, and hearing concerns. This point suggests an area where the studio might improve accessibility and comfort for all participants, especially those who might be sensitive to high noise levels or have conditions like Autism or ADHD. Providing earplugs or being more responsive to requests to lower the volume could significantly enhance the experience for a wider range of patrons.

The Playground LA Reviews
Had a class here recently and everyone was super nice. However, the music was WAY too loud (louder than club-levels) during the class to the point where I felt my hearing was being permanently damaged. We asked them nicely to turn it down but nothing really changed. I left with a strong headache, my ears ringing/muffled, hearing loss, and feeling very anxious and sad. Would appreciate it if the studio/instructors could be more considerate of people’s hearing health or at least have ear plugs available for accessibility and safety reasons. Unfortunately not Autism or ADHD-friendly or accessible.
Jun 26, 2025 · Naomi LetsonTried their intro to Vogue class with a friend. It was soooo much fun! Our instructor Polina was a fantastic instructor. She went at a good pace and was so much fun to learn from. You get nice video footage from the class. We haven’t gotten ours yet but my friend got his last week and it was so professional and clean! If I lived in LA would 100000% come again for another class.
Apr 05, 2025 · Esther ChoiThis is my favorite studio in LA! The community is so supportive, which is my favorite thing about it. I didn’t know anyone who went here and have been going by myself for about 2 years and ALWAYS end up having great conversations with people. I take at least one class a week here and am always mixing up what classes I take.Class leveling / specific classes:I’ve taken a few of my friends who aren’t dancers here with me and they have loved the beginner classes!! Some people in beginner classes here aren’t beginners - so just know that going in and definitely don’t be intimidated :)Dexter Carr’s classes are really fun for people trying to make dance friends - because he sprinkles in interactive chats and activities throughout the class. His beginner class is the best class in my opinion for true beginners. If you’ve danced before - I recommend taking his intermediate one at least!Marissa Heart’s heels classes is ALSO a super fun one for beginners and she has everyone set an intention before class - to help make it a self loving / supportive place.I primarily take intermediate and advanced classes and have been formally trained for about 20 years now and I find them always to be a GREAT workout and always learning something new.One more honorable mention to Shane Bruce’s intermediate hip hop class. I just absolutely love his dancing style, and he always has his partner as his co-teacher and the two of them are just so sweet and fun.
Jun 12, 2023 · Joy SharpI don’t get why they pack the studio with so many people. It’s not just uncomfortable to dance-it’s hard to even move. People are literally standing 10 cm apart. It’s hot, cramped, and not fun at all. I’d rather go to a less crowded studio and actually enjoy dancing than be stuck in a hot studio👎👎👎
Mar 16, 2025 · Kate MarchukWhat a workout. And FUN. This is the spot. I felt a little intimidated at first but I put on my big girl pants and did 5 classes and am really happy I did. Will be back!
