The Dance Conservatory of Southern Maine Reviews
The new owner has a background in early childhood development (not to mention extensive dance experience) and it shows! Our little one has felt so supported falling in love with dance at this studio. The show is so well run, and there's lots of positive momentum at the studio! Blown away by the older dancers and how well they behave around the younger girls as well. Great atmosphere.
Jun 19, 2025 · Ali LemoyneIf you’re looking for a dance studio that takes your child’s dance career seriously, this is the one!My 6 year old (at the time) joined DSOM South in Fall of ‘23-‘24. Though my daughter had attempted trail dance classes elsewhere, this was the first studio she joined because it was the first place that felt welcoming to her!As a Mom I took that first year to get to know the studio, the teachers, the other Moms and dancers so I could be apart of my child’s journey. We invited nearly 20 family/friends to join us for her first ever recital and wow. No one was disappointed! I had seen many, many recitals before (including in that same month) and ours was by far my favorite. As a guest, it looked so professional and beautiful. As a Mom, it couldn’t have been easier… from prepping for recital, to dropping my daughter off and picking her up at the end. It was seamless. I’m so grateful for each member of DSOM South 🤍Fast forward to our second year at DSOM South, my daughter was invited to be a Company dancer, she has four times the classes and takes private lessons whenever she can. Why?Because she absolutely LOVES her studio, her teachers/directors and the friendships she’s made with every dancer. All whom show her endless support that creates a radiant confidence in her, which genuinely shows in her growth and happiness! I let that speak for itself!!The education and care my daughter receives at DSOM South is worth every penny to me 🙂
Sep 27, 2024 · Amber PalmerI can’t say enough good things about DSOM south. The instructors are not only incredibly talented but also passionate about fostering growth in every student. They work hard to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported, challenged and loved.I've seen so much growth in my dancers not just in dance skills, but also in confidence and self-expression; both on and off the dance floor. If you’re looking for a place that truly cares about its students and encourages them to shine, DSOM south is the place to be.
Sep 27, 2024 · Jessica WrisleyWe had a pretty awful experience at this dance studio. The teacher of my kiddos class didn’t know the dance and was on her phone most of the time. The prices are extremely high and no make up classes were offered when classes were canceled. The recital was another huge issue with this place. They sent home a costume with my kiddo on their 3rd class in early December for a recital that was in May. They charged my card $80 without my consent. The dance recital itself costs $22 per person to go to, including siblings and parents. I also had to pay for a full month of classes in May even though there were only 2 classes. The required $35 video fee was quite extreme as well. My kiddo was sick the day of the recital and couldn’t go. So, it was a lot of money invested without any reward.I was left feeling super exploited and frustrated and would definitely not recommend this dance studio to folks with young kids that are just looking for a fun dance experience.
May 23, 2023 · megan murphyIf you want your child to feel left out, this is your dance studio! I held off saying anything thus far for the sake of my daughter, this is her first experience with dance. The final straw was last weekend. The group was to dance in the parade. So, we invited family and friends to come watch. Some traveling over an hour to do so. We show up to the designated meeting place early to learn the dance for the parade. At that time we were informed our daughter would not be dancing but welcome to walk behind other dancers because she’s under 8 years old. What?! This was the first I’ve heard of this and I went through every email afterwards to see what the hell I missed. Not a single email or correspondence indicated she would not be welcome to dance. After hanging out for 20 min and being ignored the entire time, they asked dancers to line up. Our daughter excitedly joined and was quickly pointed to and told she’s not to line up. She was the only one. This isn’t the first time she’s been left out with dance studio of Maine south but it will be the last. Not to mention the insane cost of class only to have to pay $20 a person to watch your kid at their recital. TONS of “mandatory” fees and other BS. This place is clearly out to make quick money off of kids. They focus solely on the older kids. Not only was it evident at the parade, but with the recital as well. The little kids had no “dress rehearsal” despite being the most inexperienced. The dances were thrown together. I could go on but I’m sure you get the point. Don’t waste your hard earned money here. You’ll regret it.
