I have been with SAB for 12 years now. I started when I was 4 and I have loved it ever since. The way that Miss Pam and Miss Shanda care for each and every one of their students is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!! They love every one of them and there is no doubt that they do everything in their power to help their students achieve their dance dreams... At SAB you get dance opportunities that you can't get from anywhere else in the area. Every December for 30 years, Miss Pam, her staff, and her students have put on a brilliant production of The Nutcracker. Also, in Spring Miss Pam gives us the chance to participate in American Academy of Ballet's Perfomance Awards and also in a spring ballet. - Tiffany Gregory

Staunton Academy of Ballet Introduce

For those in Virginia seeking a dance education that combines rigorous classical training with a truly nurturing and supportive environment, the Staunton Academy of Ballet (SAB) stands as a beacon of artistic excellence in the heart of Staunton. Founded in 1990 by director Pamela McCray, R.A.D., SAB has spent decades cultivating a deep love for dance in students of all ages, from tiny tots taking their first steps to seasoned adults. This local institution is more than just a dance school; it's a vibrant community where dedication is celebrated, dreams are fostered, and a profound appreciation for the art of ballet is instilled in every student.

What truly sets Staunton Academy of Ballet apart is the unwavering commitment of its leadership and staff to each individual student. As one long-time dancer enthusiastically attests, "I have been with SAB for 12 years now. I started when I was 4 and I have loved it ever since. The way that Miss Pam and Miss Shanda care for each and every one of their students is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!! They love every one of them and there is no doubt that they do everything in their power to help their students achieve their dance dreams..." This heartfelt sentiment is echoed by many, highlighting the compassionate and dedicated approach that has become a hallmark of SAB. It’s this personalized attention and genuine care that truly allows students to flourish, not just as dancers, but as confident and disciplined individuals.

Beyond the exceptional daily instruction, Staunton Academy of Ballet provides unparalleled performance opportunities that are truly unique in the area. The school has a long-standing tradition of staging a "brilliant production of The Nutcracker" every December for over 30 years. This annual holiday classic is a cornerstone of the Staunton arts scene, allowing students the invaluable experience of performing in a full-scale theatrical production. Such consistent and high-quality performance exposure is crucial for developing stage presence, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the performing arts. Furthermore, students are given the chance to participate in the American Academy of Ballet's Performance Awards, an internationally recognized program that challenges dancers to refine their technique and artistry. These opportunities, along with a spring ballet, ensure that SAB students receive comprehensive training that extends far beyond the studio walls, preparing them for a variety of dance pathways, whether recreational or professional.

The curriculum at Staunton Academy of Ballet is meticulously designed to cater to the physical and mental development of students across various age groups and skill levels. Classes are divided into five main divisions: Primary, Junior, Intermediate, Pre-senior, Senior, and Adult, with a total of 16 levels. For the youngest dancers, classes like "Dance with Me" (for ages 2-3) offer a gentle introduction to movement with a parent or guardian, while "Little Princess/Prince Ballet" introduces fun movements and structured routines. As students progress, the focus shifts to developing strength, proper posture, flexibility, coordination, and a solid foundation in dance vocabulary. Advanced levels delve into more complex combinations, musicality, and challenging techniques at the barre and in the center. The inclusion of an Adult Division with Beginning and Intermediate/Advanced levels means that individuals of any age can pursue or rekindle their love for classical ballet, ensuring that the joy of dance is accessible to everyone in the community.

Staunton Academy of Ballet prides itself on its educated, experienced, and professional staff who are committed to helping budding dancers capture the full essence of their art in a loving and caring environment.
