Starlight Dance Studios and Theater Reviews
If you're looking for affordable and safe dance classes for your kid, or a step up in professionalism from the school musical, Starlight is the place for you.I was a student at Starlight for 10 years. I've seen a lot of change over that time, both in the company and in myself. Yet the thing I've come to respect most about Starlight as a company is their commitment to accessibility in the performing arts. Even as their prices have raised with the times, no other local company offers the quality Starlight offers for as low of a price. Arts are, unfortunately, expensive. But Starlight is committed to making sure its families can access programs no matter what their situations may be, including offering scholarships to their students. The quality of the shows they put on is high, particularly for their middle and high school aged programs. No other program in the area offers two shows in one year for the prices they charge. Although I can't speak as much for dance teams, I know that they are committed to making dance as affordable for your family as possible.Another positive thing about Starlight has been the community. I can't lie and say I haven't had a negative experience with a show, but even in that time, the community of students, staff and parents was always so encouraging. Starlight offers an internship program which allows teen students to help with choreography, direction, music direction, design and other parts of theatre, all while being role models for younger students. The staff is made up of former competitive dancers who are committed to making the competitive dance world a healthier place for their students than it was for them. Ultimately, as someone who now works directing youth theatre, Starlight is a place of positivity and acceptance, and I would recommend it to any of my students looking for the next step in theatre.
Jul 03, 2025 · Emma WydogenI acted here for multiple years, this place isn’t my favorite. The teachers were harsh, they seem to play favorites, and I’ve had multiple upsetting experiences here. All the favorite students usually get the lead roles, no matter how bad they are at singing, dancing, or acting. It wasn’t a good place for me to be around, and seemed to promote a rude environment. The dancing isn't the best, I left after doing a single performance of the “hip hop” dance because I was embarrassed of it, it was the highest level you could get to here too, and it was still not the best. I was supposed to do a solo, but the dance was embarrassing to me. I’ve had multiple times when I came home crying because I was singled out in class. It felt like I was being singled out a lot, and it felt like a very competitive environment when I believe it shouldn’t have been. I wish this company the best and for them to improve their ways.
May 29, 2025 · Emme PottsI just want to say thanks to Emme for speaking out. For a long time, I felt like I was the only one being singled out for no reason while other kids got away with being mean. It really sucked and made me feel pretty alone. If you feel the same way, you’re definitely not alone. Things should be about supporting everyone, not playing favorites or making people scared.
Jul 02, 2025 · HannahI Really Did enjoy it. It was A super fun experience. And The only reason Why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I don't do well with other kids my age but overall it was a great experience and The people we're Super Nice!
