Springs Dance

4175 Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907, USA

4.0
Great dance studio for fun dancing and has a supportive environment, but it is really expensive compared to the other recreational dance studios in town and does not offer comparable development (save for maybe 2 or 3 dance teachers who are actually qualified). Classes are only one-hour long even at the advanced level, they raise tuition with little explanation and no warning, and don't pay their teachers a competitive rate. The new building is really nice, though I'd rather see them invest in their teachers and build a solid dance curriculum, especially for the adult students. Expect to have fun and make friends, but that's about it. - T F

Hello, Colorado Springs! Are you looking for a place where you can explore the art of dance, connect with a welcoming community, and move your body in a fun and engaging way? Springs Dance is a prominent local dance studio that aims to offer just that, providing a space for both seasoned dancers and complete beginners to find their rhythm. This article will provide you with an honest and informative look into Springs Dance, detailing its location, typical class offerings, and what you can expect as a local looking to join their vibrant community. Whether you're seeking to refine your technique, get a great workout, or simply make new friends, let's explore what Springs Dance has to offer.

Springs Dance presents itself as a dance studio with a mission to foster a supportive and fun environment for dancers of all levels. Their core philosophy, as highlighted on their website, prioritizes the individual over accolades, emphasizing "a studio culture that prioritizes individuals over medals and trophies." This suggests a focus on personal growth, well-being, and the joy of dance itself, rather than solely competitive achievement. They aim to help students "find and strengthen the best in them" and offer programs designed to help dancers of "all sizes, ages, and natural abilities succeed." A distinctive feature of Springs Dance is its commitment to "true adult-only classes," a significant draw for many in Colorado Springs who might feel apprehensive about dancing alongside very young students. They also offer a unique "Leadership Training" curriculum, which uses dance to teach broader life skills like teamwork, responsibility, and goal-setting. While reviews offer a mixed perspective on certain aspects, the studio clearly aims to be a community-centric space for dance education.

Springs Dance is conveniently located at 4175 Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907, USA. This address places the studio in a readily accessible area within Colorado Springs, particularly for residents in the western and central parts of the city. Centennial Boulevard is a key thoroughfare, ensuring straightforward navigation and easy access from various neighborhoods.

The location within a commercial or light-industrial area typically means there is ample parking available, which is a significant advantage for students and parents. Easy parking helps to reduce stress and ensures a smooth arrival and departure for classes. The surrounding area is well-established, contributing to a safe and familiar environment. While specific public transportation routes would need to be verified with Mountain Metropolitan Transit, major roads like Centennial Boulevard generally have bus stops, potentially offering options for those who rely on public transport. The strategic placement of Springs Dance underscores its commitment to serving a broad segment of the Colorado Springs community, making quality dance instruction easily reachable for many.

Springs Dance offers a comprehensive array of dance styles catering to both youth and adult students, from beginners to more advanced levels. Their class offerings are designed to provide a well-rounded dance education and cater to diverse interests within the Colorado Springs community. Based on available information, their services include:

  • Classical Ballet: Foundational training in ballet technique, emphasizing grace, poise, strength, and flexibility. Classes are available across various levels, including "Absolute Beginner Ballet" for adults with little to no prior training, and progressive levels for more experienced adult dancers.

  • Tap Dance: An upbeat and rhythmic style where dancers use their feet to create percussive sounds. Springs Dance offers "Adult Tap" classes, making it accessible for adults to learn or return to this fun style.

  • Jazz Dance: High-energy classes focusing on popular music and expressive movements. "Adult Jazz" is available, exploring different styles of jazz like Broadway, pop, and 80s, emphasizing expression and performance.

  • Contemporary Dance: Combining innovative movement styles (often incorporating modern and jazz elements) with ballet technique. "Adult Contemporary" classes involve instructors creating "in the moment" choreography and encouraging movement exploration.

  • Hip Hop: While not explicitly detailed, it is a common offering in modern dance studios and is likely part of their youth curriculum, providing dynamic and popular dance forms.

  • Lyrical: A dance style that blends ballet and jazz, focusing on emotional storytelling through fluid movement.

  • Youth Programs: Structured programs for children and teens of various ages and skill levels, covering a range of dance styles suitable for younger learners.

  • Adult-Only Classes: A significant feature is their dedicated adult programs, explicitly stating that classes are limited to dancers ages 16 and up. This ensures a comfortable learning environment where adults won't be sharing the barre with very young children, catering to both those new to dance and those returning after a hiatus.

  • Performance Opportunities: Adult dancers, once they reach intermediate levels, have the option to participate in the studio's annual student recital, Winter showcase, and audition for other performances like the Bi-Annual Nutcracker. This provides valuable stage experience and a goal for adult students.

  • Leadership Training: A unique program that uses dance to teach broader life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, and goal-setting, integrating monthly leadership lessons into the dance experience.

  • Drop-in Classes: Many adult classes are offered on a drop-in basis, providing flexibility for students with busy schedules who may not be able to commit to weekly attendance. Punch cards are also available for this purpose.

This diverse set of offerings, particularly the strong emphasis on adult programming, makes Springs Dance a highly versatile and appealing option for the Colorado Springs community.

Springs Dance in Colorado Springs presents a mixed bag of features and highlights, as reflected in customer feedback. Understanding both the positive and areas for improvement can help locals make an informed decision:

  • Supportive and Fun Environment: A consistent highlight is the "great dance studio for fun dancing" with a "supportive environment." Customers praise the "teachers and the ladies at the front desk" for being "so nice," "always sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable." This indicates a positive and welcoming atmosphere where students feel comfortable and enjoy their time. "It's been so much fun taking adult dance classes at Springs Dance. I definitely recommend checking them out," notes one happy adult dancer.

  • Dedicated Adult Programs: Springs Dance places a strong emphasis on its "true adult-only classes" for ages 16 and up. This is a significant draw, ensuring that adult beginners or those returning to dance can learn in an environment free from very young children. They cater to all levels from absolute beginner to advanced, covering styles like ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary. The option for adult performance in recitals and showcases is also a strong highlight.

  • Focus on Individual Excellence: The studio's philosophy prioritizes "individual excellence over medals or trophies," aiming to help students "find and strengthen the best in them." This suggests a nurturing approach to dance education.

  • Leadership Training Program: A unique feature is their leadership curriculum, integrating principles like teamwork, goal-setting, and discipline into the dance experience, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals.

  • New Building and Facilities: One reviewer notes, "The new building is really nice." A modern and well-maintained facility can significantly enhance the learning experience and comfort of students.

  • Affordable Pricing (Contrasting Views): One review states, "The classes are a good price for what they provide you with," recommending checking them out. However, another offers a contrasting view, noting it is "really expensive compared to the other recreational dance studios in town" and mentions tuition raises "with little explanation and no warning." This discrepancy suggests that perceived value and affordability may vary depending on individual expectations and comparisons to other local options.

  • Concerns Regarding Curriculum Depth and Teacher Compensation: A critical review points out that the studio "does not offer comparable development (save for maybe 2 or 3 dance teachers who are actually qualified)." It also mentions classes being "only one-hour long even at the advanced level" and concerns about not paying teachers a "competitive rate," which could potentially impact teacher retention and overall curriculum quality in the long run. The reviewer explicitly states, "I'd rather see them invest in their teachers and build a solid dance curriculum, especially for the adult students." This highlights a desire for more comprehensive and structured training, particularly at higher levels.

  • Social Benefits Over Technical Development (for some): The advice to "Expect to have fun and make friends, but that's about it" from one reviewer suggests that for some, the studio excels more in providing a social outlet and enjoyable experience rather than rigorous technical training, particularly at advanced levels.

Overall, Springs Dance seems to offer a genuinely friendly and supportive environment, particularly appealing for adult dancers and those seeking a fun, community-focused experience. However, individuals looking for highly intensive, pre-professional level training, especially at advanced levels, may want to explore other options or inquire deeply about specific class structures and teacher qualifications.

For locals in Colorado Springs, Springs Dance offers a compelling option for those seeking a supportive and enjoyable dance experience. Its dedicated adult-only programs are a significant draw, providing a comfortable environment for adults to learn or return to dance without feeling out of place. The consistent praise for the "nice," "sweet," "helpful," and "knowledgeable" teachers and front desk staff underscores a genuinely welcoming community, which is paramount for fostering a love for dance and ensuring a positive experience. The presence of a "new building" also suggests a commitment to providing a pleasant and modern facility for students.

However, it is important for Colorado Springs residents to balance the enthusiastic "fun and make friends" aspect with some concerns raised regarding curriculum depth, especially at advanced levels, and the perceived value for the price for certain students. If your primary goal is a social, recreational dance experience in a friendly atmosphere, particularly as an adult beginner, Springs Dance appears to be an excellent choice. If, however, you are an advanced dancer seeking rigorous, comprehensive technical development with extended class times, it would be prudent to inquire deeply and perhaps explore other options. Ultimately, Springs Dance offers a unique and valuable contribution to the Colorado Springs dance scene, particularly for those prioritizing community, enjoyment, and a supportive learning environment. We encourage you to reach out and experience their welcoming atmosphere for yourself.
