So Cal Dance Academy, dance studio Reviews
As a mom of a first-time dance student, I can’t say enough wonderful things about So Cal Dance Academy! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and supported. My daughter was nervous on her first day, but the instructors were incredibly kind, patient, and encouraging. It’s clear they genuinely care about each child’s growth and happiness.
Jul 05, 2025 · Christy SmithAfter a lot of thought, I feel it’s necessary to share our experience. My daughter joined So Cal Dance Academy three years ago, and while she started with genuine excitement and passion for dance, that spark has steadily declined—especially over the past year.Unfortunately, the studio environment has become increasingly toxic, not just from certain staff members, but from the owner as well. My daughter, along with several others, began dreading classes. Teachers would reprimand the dancers harshly and even make them do sit-ups and push-ups as punishment for not placing at competitions. That kind of pressure—especially on kids—just isn’t healthy. It wasn’t just the kids who felt the tension. Parents, including myself, often felt intimidated approaching the front desk, especially if the owner was in a bad mood. I personally witnessed her speak to paying parents in a passive-aggressive and, at times, outright disrespectful manner. The atmosphere became something we no longer wanted to be part of.I ultimately made the difficult decision to pull my daughter out mid-season. Looking back, I wish I had acted sooner. Over the years, we saw a noticeable turnover in both dancers and families—and the once-thriving competitive team has significantly shrunk. At the end of the day, dance—whether recreational or competitive—should still be fun and encouraging for kids. That joy was missing. I’m writing this review not out of spite, but in the hope it helps other families who might be questioning the same things we once did
Jun 06, 2025 · Dominique GilBoth of my daughters started dancing here in March 2021 and they absolutely love it. This is their 3rd your on the comp team and we just love watching them perform. The teachers are great with the kids and my girls continue to thrive at this studio. I would definitely refer them to anyone I know! :)
Sep 07, 2023 · Autumn ScheibelSCDA has been the best introduction to dance for my daughter! We attempted a different dance company when she was 3 and it was not a good experience. Since switching to SCDA she has thrived! The instructors work so well with her and it feels like a family. They offer Acro classes that help my daughter gain strength and stretching techniques as well as many offerings and times for all other types of dance classes. We have never struggled to find a time or class that works for us. When you are in the studio it feels like you are surrounded by family. The owners are amazing and know every single person there. Such an awesome environment that I hope my daughter will continue with for years to come.
