Rumba Y Timbal Dance Company Introduce
For those in Massachusetts eager to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Latin dance, Rumba Y Timbal Dance Company in Cambridge, MA, stands out as a premier destination. Specializing in Salsa, Bachata, and other unique Latin dances, this studio provides an exceptionally structured and effective learning environment for dancers of all levels, from complete beginners taking their very first steps to seasoned social dancers looking to refine their technique or join a performance team. Rumba Y Timbal prides itself on its ability to help students reach whatever goal brought them to the space, whether it's to be a professional performer or simply to feel confident and joyful on the social dance floor.
The teaching philosophy at Rumba Y Timbal is one of its greatest strengths, setting it apart from many other dance schools in the Boston area. As one dedicated student enthusiastically shared, "Pricy but worth it. Best dance school I tried in Boston - and I tried many. What I love most is the way they teach: it’s structured and effective to feel great at social dancing events quickly." This focus on practical application and rapid improvement for social dancing is a significant draw for Massachusetts residents who want to confidently step onto any dance floor. The curriculum is designed to build progressively, with each class within a season building on the previous one, and every new move seamlessly incorporated into an ever-growing sequence. This unique approach provides students with "templates to experiment on the dance floor," ensuring they can truly engage and improvise in real-world social dancing scenarios.
Beyond the structured classes, Rumba Y Timbal offers an impressive array of resources designed to support and accelerate student learning. The provision of a detailed video library where "every move they teach is also presented as a detailed video in their online library" is an invaluable tool, allowing students to review and practice at their own pace outside of class. Furthermore, the studio understands the importance of practice, offering "plenty of opportunity to catch up or dive deeper via private lessons and 'free training', where you can come to the club with a dance class mate and practice on your own. During those free training sessions, there is an instructor and other practicing couples, so there is plenty opportunities to get help and advise as well." This comprehensive support system ensures that every Massachusetts dancer receives the personalized attention and practice time needed to truly master the moves and build confidence.
The instructors at Rumba Y Timbal, like Abniel Izquierdo, Alexis Coto, Deysi Melgar, Dustin Lin, Isle Bastille, and Jonathan Cowan, bring a wealth of experience and passion to their teaching. Many of them have deep roots in Latin dance, some having grown up immersed in the music and culture, or performing with premier dance teams. Their collective goal is to help students discover and express their unique selves through various forms of artistic expression, emphasizing proper technique, connection, and movement quality. This dedicated and knowledgeable faculty is committed to enhancing students' skills both socially and professionally, fostering a vibrant sense of community that extends beyond the classroom.
Rumba Y Timbal Dance Company is conveniently located at 7 Temple St, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA. This address places it in Central Square, Cambridge, a lively and easily accessible hub within the greater Boston area. Its central location makes it highly convenient for residents commuting from Boston, Somerville, Arlington, Watertown, and other surrounding Massachusetts communities. Central Square is well-served by public transportation, particularly the MBTA Red Line, making it a breeze for students to reach the studio without needing a car. The vibrant neighborhood also offers plenty of dining and social options for before or after classes, adding to the overall appeal for local dancers.
The studio itself is designed to accommodate dynamic dance instruction and events. While one review noted "There aren't many mirrors for proper practise. Whatever that's there it's unevenly spread because of the pillars on the wall," it also stated, "Nice place for events like dance workshops or to keep regular dance practices." The official website indicates that the studio features a "2000 sq. ft. main floor and a wide 500 sq. ft. stage facing the main floor, large mirrors covering one side of the room, exhaust fans ensuring proper air renewal." This suggests a spacious and well-equipped environment for classes, rehearsals, and social dancing, with the mirrors largely concentrated on one side. The overall positive sentiment from students about its suitability for events and practices implies that its layout, despite some noted quirks, effectively serves its purpose for the active dance community it hosts in Massachusetts.

Jan 17, 2024 · Shlomo KonwisserAlways wanted to learn Salsa and 6 months ago my son agreed to be my dance partner (yes, I bribed him), so we signed up with Rumba Y Timbal for the beginner class. We absolutely loved it. After just two months of lessons I was dancing at socials with confidence. Due to my son getting a new job and he had to stop, I lost a dance partner but no biggie for there is always someone to dance with at Rumba Y Timbal and the staff is awesome. If you're not getting a specific move they are there to practice with you after or before class. If you want to learn salsa and you want to feel confident in social settings Rumba Y Timbal is the place to be.
Oct 13, 2014 · Janice - Jaycee McCulloughOne of the best salsa/bachata schools in the country. Very far above anything else in the Boston and Cambridge area (I have done them all).Great instructors, strong emphasis on technicals, presence of curriculum for every class, flexibility of schedule (classes twice a week) all make progression very fast. Most people who joined got a good level after ~6 months. Also good leader/follower ratio (~50/50 for pretty much all classes - not the case in many other schools, where there are traditionally more leaders, which means leaders learn much less). Also a great community - I feel I have always been treated as a student or a friend, never as a customer.
