Omaha School of Music & Dance Reviews
Buckle up for this lovefest.Words cannot completely describe the joy this place has brought me. I didn't have the opportunity to take dance classes as a child and during a turning point in my life I found OSMD.OSMD has given me so many gifts: the greatest friendships, growing confidence, something to work towards, and the opportunity to challenge myself. The teachers here are absolutely amazing, every single one. They all bring a background of dance and a wide range of knowledge, they are all kind and strong and accepting. The owner, Amanda, who also teaches, truly cares about the school and the students. You can see she puts her heart into it. The teachers I've had the opportunity to learn from: Portia, Molly, Katie, Natalie, and Rebekah are all skilled dancers, great teachers, and wonderful humans. Special shout-out to Portia and Molly who are not only teachers of mine, but also friends and even mentors to me. I love them so much. One of the most awesome things about OSMD is that they allow adults to participate in both the main spring/summer recital and the fall Spooktacular. They also have such a nice range of adult class offerings for beginner and advanced. I don't think there is another dance studio with all of these same offerings and with year round classes. I look forward to my classes every week.I could go on and on but I'll just leave it here lol. I highly recommend OSMD for kids and adults! đđđâ¤ď¸Edit 7/2/2025 Just completed my third summer recital, fifth overall, at OSMD and had to provide updates. Another wonderful year with great teachers and so much growth. I struggled with confidence a lot this past year but Molly was there to encourage me and support me every step of the way. Amanda offered me kindness and wisdom when I felt uncertain about moving up to the Advanced/Intermediate Jazz class. I'm a weirdo, recently discovered I'm neurodivergent, and have felt like an outcast most of my life until I found friendship and support here. I've made lifelong friends and have never felt more accepted in my life. I came here to try something new, make friends, and get exercise and I've accomplished those things. I cannot say enough good things about OSMD. I'm really looking forward to another year of growth and accomplishments. I doubt myself a lot but I know everyone here will lift me up when I struggle with my doubts. I'm really excited for the new ballet program and to push myself even more. I'm so thankful that I have a safe space to be myself, to laugh, to find joy, to be accepted for who I am.
Jul 02, 2025 ¡ Bethany SNeurodivergent dancers beware!Full disclosure, this happened in late 2024 after I had taken an adult class for about a year and a half. Just still feel the need to leave my feedback.Owner and some of the dance teachers have mean girl vibes in adult classes. Dancers will talk loudly when other people are learning new steps and practicing. Teachers openly told me they will not ask adults not to talk during class. I understand it doesnt have to be silent all the time, but I feel its a basic dance class etiquette thing to limit distractions when trying to learn new skills. The teacher Molly was friends with some of the other adults and ended up making me feel like she was straight up bullying me. She was the leader in the room yet lacked any emotional self control or deescalation strategies and told me off/implied I wasnât a good enough dancer for advanced ballet/told me this isnât a professional company and I need to stop telling others what to do in front of everyone in the class after I asked people to please stop talking during the 30 seconds while Iâm dancing across the floor, once again, because I cannot focus and the staff had ignored multiple requests to address distractions in class. You donât need to tell me OSMD isnât a professional dance company lol. Regardless, I still paid (more money than my new studio for a shorter duration of class) to be there to get better at ballet not to socialize.Molly made me feel excluded, unwanted, completely rejected, and not listened to. She appeared to be friends with some of the dancers who kept talking. It also started to feel very intentional, like my classmates noticing their talking while I was dancing bothering me and certain people started doing it on purpose at very specific moments.Super unprofessional on Mollyâs part. Two stars instead of one because the teacher I used to have, Katie, was phenomenal and I loved her. She went on maternity leave and was replaced by an inexperienced dance teacher stuck in high school mean girl drama mindset.Preemptive edit: I did receive professional communication (not from Amanda lol) and a refund for two monthsâ tuition after this all took place. I still just want the general public to be aware of this experience and how I never received a personal apology from Molly or Amanda or any of my classmates who were involved. đ
May 24, 2025 ¡ Soft DrinkWe absolutely love OSMD! The coaches and staff are incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and passionate about helping each skater reach their full potential. My kids have grown so much in both skill and confidence since joining. The environment is welcoming, and the emphasis on both technique and fun makes every lesson enjoyable.Beyond skating, OSMD offers an incredible variety of programs, including piano, drum, guitar, and dance. Itâs amazing to have so many opportunities for kids to explore different creative and athletic talents all in one place. The instructors are fantastic, ensuring each student progresses while still having fun.The organization is well-run, and communication is always clear, whether itâs about scheduling, competitions, or special events. Feb 25, 2025 ¡ TINGTING HEI canât say enough wonderful things about OSMD! As a dance teacher here, I have never felt more at HOME in a work place. I can confidently tell you: if youâre looking for a voice AND dance studio for your kiddo, look no further! This studio truly sets itself apart with its dedication to both students and staff.
