Their curriculum is meticulously designed for serious and committed young artists who aspire to excel in the world of classical ballet. Here's an overview of their core offerings:
- Complete Ballet Training Program: The school provides a full ballet training program for "committed young artists who are passionate about dancing and that are looking for a professional ballet program." This implies a structured, progressive curriculum across various levels.
- Cuban Ballet Technique Specialization: A defining feature is their focus on the "Cuban technique." This method is renowned for its emphasis on developing muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and discipline, ensuring students achieve significant improvements in their dancing. It integrates Russian Vaganova methodology with a focus on the entire body, strong torso, and distinctive artistic accents.
- Young Dancers Division (Ages 3-12): This division aims to build a strong foundation in technique, coordination, balance, and age-appropriate strength for younger students. Classes explore creativity and build passion for dance, including Ballet, Pointe, Classical Variations, Contemporary, Repertoire, and preparation for Ballet Competitions.
- Pre-Professional Division (Ages 12-18): For serious students aspiring to dance at professional and college levels, this division requires a certain number of classes per week for intensive training. It includes Ballet, Pointe, Classical Variations, Contemporary, Repertoire, and extensive preparation for ballet competitions.
- Preparation for Magnet Dance Programs: The experienced teachers at the school specialize in coaching and training students specifically for auditions and entry into prestigious magnet dance programs, providing a pathway to advanced artistic education.
- Preparation for Serious Ballet Competitions: A significant service is their dedicated coaching for major international ballet competitions such as Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), Universal Ballet Competition (UBC), and World Ballet Competition (WBC). This preparation includes specific variations, technique refinement, and performance coaching.
- Annual Performances: The school provides valuable performance opportunities, including a "beautiful show in December every year" (likely a Nutcracker production) and a year-end "recital at the end of the course." These performances allow students to showcase their progress and gain stage experience, sometimes sharing the stage with international professional dancers.
- Summer Intensive Programs: They offer Summer Intensive programs for ages 6-18, typically running Monday-Friday with classes covering Ballet, Contemporary, Pointe, Jazz, Choreography, stage make-up, repertoire, stretching, floor barre, and conditioning. These intensives provide concentrated training during the summer months.
- Pointe and Conditioning Classes: Specific classes like Pointe (starting when students have acquired enough strength and technique, usually after 3 years of intense ballet) and Conditioning (ages 6-21, enhancing stamina, strength, flexibility, and endurance) are offered to complement ballet technique.
- Private Classes and Personalized Training: For students seeking highly individualized attention, private sessions are available. These are particularly useful for targeted preparation for competitions, magnet programs, and college auditions.

Mar 31, 2023 · Carlos De la arenaThis school is run by former professional ballet dancers from Cuba who are not only highly skilled artists, but excellent teachers as well! They really take their time to go beyond just teaching exercises and technique and help guide students to develop a sense of artistry that is lacking in so many other dance schools. I also love that the class sizes are small, so you wind up getting a lot of individual feedback! I'm an adult taking class here (ALL ages are welcome!!) and find that what they offer is on an entirely different level from anything I've experienced at other studios. I would highly recommend Valia's school to anyone looking for quality ballet instruction in Miami!!
