Kalagangothri Bharathanatyam School Introduce
For families in New Jersey, particularly those in Edison and the broader tri-state area, seeking an authentic and rigorous education in classical Indian dance, Kalagangothri Bharathanatyam School stands as a revered institution. This is not merely a dance school; it is a cultural cornerstone dedicated to preserving and transmitting the profound beauty and rich heritage of Bharathanatyam. Under the expert tutelage of Gurus Akhila and Sri Chetan Hebbar, students embark on a disciplined yet deeply rewarding journey that connects them to the essence of Indian culture through this ancient art form.
Bharathanatyam, originating from Tamil Nadu, India, is one of the oldest and most revered classical Indian dance forms. It is characterized by its intricate footwork (adavus), expressive hand gestures (mudras or hastas), and profound facial expressions (bhava), all meticulously combined to tell stories and convey spiritual themes. At Kalagangothri, students learn not just the physical movements but also the underlying philosophy and cultural context, making their learning experience truly holistic and enriching.
The dedication and passion of the Gurus are consistently praised by the school's community. As one parent enthusiastically shared, "My daughter is lucky to get Teachers like Akila and Chetan, who has immense passion and talent in classical dance. The elements of bharatnatyam are passed on to the students in a very disciplined and perfect way. Students can understand the essence of classical dance very well and connect to the Indian culture through the well defined curriculum set by Akila and Chetan. Would recommend them for training the students with a traditional style." This highlights the commitment to traditional methodology and cultural immersion that sets Kalagangothri apart.
Another long-standing family echoed this sentiment, stating, "Our daughter has been a student of Kalagangothri Foundation for the last 7 years under the tutelage of Gurus Akhila and Sri Chetan Hebbar. Under their guidance and training she has blossomed into a young aspiring dancer. It never ceases to amaze me the depth of their knowledge and talent, and the commitment they have in teaching the nuances of this beautiful art form that is Bharatanatyam. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors." These testimonials underscore the profound impact Gurus Akhila and Chetan Hebbar have on their students, nurturing not just dancers but individuals deeply connected to their cultural roots and artistic potential.

Jan 04, 2021 · Subramaniam DharmarajanMy experience was different with Kalagangothri, No doubt both Gururs Akhila and Chetan are more profound and highly devoted teachers and they know what they teach , but are not kid friendly. I joned my 7yr old girl Nov 2022 and within a month my little one came crying to me saying that she would not continue . When I called the teacher Akhila , her immediate response was to look out elsewhere instead of showing any compassion or address the concern. Infact they told that it would be much stuffer going forward . I was baffled with their response and the way the situation was handled. I was very upset with the whole thing and got her out as soon as possible. My little one goes to so many group classes including Skating, GYmnastics, Bollywood dance and Swimming, there was no complaint or any issue. My question is why is it so rigid to younger kids? To instill their passion to dance in kids' minds is a very crucial skill and sensitive thing, Any questions asked were taken personally and not professionally. Always , why question me . They might highly skilled but being rude and rigid is not right . Only once she was late and wore a dress which was not below knee length , for that one need not be rudely correct in front of other kids. Corrections are necessary but can be done in a more kind way than rude. . My kid was so upset that she never wanted to go back. As teachers , they should inspire and not scare them with rigidity or strictness. Need to be more flexible and adapt to the current generation . So it's not for younger or Junior kids.
